Let the students identify the theme of the ‘song’ The Last Leaf by
Cascades using ‘Hugot or Pick-up lines.’ Ask: Do you feel the emotions
of the persona in the song?

Let students work on the vocabulary table for 5 minutes. Allow
recitation in processing answers later.

C. Lesson Proper
The Last Leaf by O.Henry
Group Presentation
Let the group in charged in the story take the floor and unfold their
presentation.
Questions for Discussion:
1. What is Johnsy’s illness?
2. What is the cause of her illness?
3. What do you think made Johnsy consider that her possible death
would be simultaneous with the last leaf to fall? What is the
connection with her illness?
4. What helps JOhnsy recover from the illness? Do you think it’s
psychological in nature? Why?
5. How does Mr. Berhman emphasize the connection ofJohnsy’s faith
to be healed with the vine’s ability to hold the leaf (based on
Jonhsy’s point of view?)
D. Generalization
Let students identify the theme of the story.
E. Application
Task 7 Small Group Differentiated Work
Group 1-Retell the events using cohesive devices. Use a graphic
organizer.
Group 2-Identify the characters’ emotions and actions through a Venn
Diagram.
Group 3-Draw the scene when the two characters meet.
Group 4-Act out the scenes when Johnsy saw the last leaf the next
morning.

Using the diagram below, state the difference and similarities of the vine and
Johnsy.
