1. Overview
1.1 Introduction
Based on this innovative SDR platform, ZTE promotes a series of eNodeB to satisfy
different scenario requirements, including Indoor Macro, Outdoor Macro, Distributed,
Outdoor Micro, and Pico/Femto.
With the developing of mobile communication, high quality networks have to be built up
to meet growing requirements. Hot spot, indoor and rural area coverage should be taken
into consideration. At the same time, telecom operators are facing challenges in
equipment room, engineering and noise pollution. As a compact Micro eNodeB, ZXSDR
BS8922 is hence designed to meet these requirements.
Integrated design and Multi-Carrier Power Amplifier (MCPA) make it small volume, high
density, high capacity and low power consumption for LTE and LTE-A. It can be used for
both indoor and outdoor applications with IP65 protection. The unit can be mounted on
walls, poles or masts.
1.2 Benefits
BS8922 supports: (Here refers to the max capability. The specific capacity is limited
to the license.)
It supports expansion to S1/1/1 with 3 units. 2x5W TOC and close to antenna
installation improve coverage. Compared with traditional indoor, hot spot and rural
coverage solutions, it provides higher capacity and coverage.
BS8922 is only 7L/8kg, easy to transport and install. It can be mounted on the pole,
the wall, the tower top, etc. No dedicated equipment space is required, easy for site
selection, fast network deployment.
Smooth Evolution
BS8922 supports the smooth evolution to the LTE-A, so as to protect the operators’
investments maximally.

2 Product Architecture
BS8922 single unit integrates the control and clock module, baseband processing, radio
unit, power management and so on. Both AC (220 V/110 V) and DC (-48 V) power
supply are supported.

The control and clock module is used for control and management, and provides system
clock. Its functions are as follows:
Providing Ethernet switching function, implementing data switching for service and
control flow within the system;
Monitoring, controlling and maintaining of the base station system, providing Local
Maintenance Terminal (LMT) interface;
Managing software versions and supporting local and remote software upgrade;
Providing a real-time clock for system operation and maintenance; the real-time
clock can be calibrated.
It processes the physical layer protocol and frame protocol specified by 3GPP. Its main
functions are listed as follows:
The software architecture of BS8922 can be divided into four layers: Hardware Driven
Layer, Operating System Layer, SDR Platform Layer, and LTE Application Layer.
It provides the functions of Board Support Package (BSP) & Driver. BSP subsystem
bootstraps and drives hardware of the entire system.
Radio Network Layer Control Plane (RNLC) subsystem provides radio control
plane’s common and dedicated resource management and control.
Radio Network Layer User Plane (RNLU) subsystem provides user plane
function.
2.4 Functionality
User Equipment (UE) access and radio link transmission including RF processing,
channel coding and decoding, channel multiplexing and de-multiplexing, baseband
resource pooling function, measurement and report, power control, transmit
diversity, receiving diversity, calibration and synchronization;
LTE radio interface and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) interface processing, mobility
management, radio resource management and controlling, etc;
Supports 2T2R;
Supports IP Sec.
Small cell system is able to share the same OSS with Macro Network.
