Chapter 8
Extractive Institutions made it possible for the elites to dominate and control the
masses. As we discussed the Ottoman Empire they had an extractive institution and held back Arab
growth until its collapse after World War 1.Although Ottomans and other absolutist regimes held
back the growth of the nation some societies tht lack centralized states have a struggle to lead the
nations into prosperity thats why it depends on the leadership that the nations have.No printing
allowed also affected how nations stand in the present. An example of this was the spanish regime in
the Philippines.Where they also banned the printing press when the novel or masterpiece of the
Filipino people control so they banned those immoral and anti spanish masterpiece or publication.
This chapter of why nations fail deepened the understanding of why nations affected by
their history.Like the case of England and Spain where monarchy practiced. From those nations we
will learn that it depends on the leadership also of the leader.Being centralized and keeping their
own interest resulted to a huge disparity between the worlds nation. As a social science teacher we
need to widened our learnings or even our understanding about the history of the nations and learn
from it by analyzing why there's a nation who are gain prosperity and ehy others dont.We must do
our best in building a nation by molding our learners holistically and to be globally competitive with
the touch of nationalism.
