Purpose

Fire Fighter needs many levels of training to do their jobs in a safe and competent manner.
To minimize risks,
The basic fire fighter training program has been prepared to help the human life, properties
and fire service community address important safety training issues.

Objectives

To ensure all GCMS personnel are made aware of how to operate fire protection equipment
to a basic level of competence and to promote confidence in fire fighting, using different fire
extinguishers mediums and fire fighting equipment.

Understand the combustion process and different fire classes.


Understand fire extinguisher types, operating procedures, capabilities, and limitations.
Understand basic firefighting concepts:
To check and assess the awareness and response of the work force, in the event of real
emergency.
To train the all personnel to handle such situation effectively.
To check the in case of fire efficiency of communication system.

Priority

To safeguard human life and properties.


To protect company’s and client’s assets.
To maintain company’s image and reputation.
Fire Extinguisher Training Contents

How Does a Fire Work?

Three components
Need all three components to start a fire
Fire extinguishers remove one or more of the components

 Cooling – Remove the heat


 Starvation – Remove the fuel
 Smothering – Remove the Oxygen

Types of Fires
Class A - Wood, paper, cloth, trash
Class B - Flammable liquids, oil, gas& grease
Class C - Electrical, energized electrical equipment
Class D - Combustible metals
Class K (F) – Cooking fire
K

Recently recognized by NFPA 10.


Fires involving combustible vegetable or animal non-saturated cooking fats in
commercial cooking equipment.

Know department emergency procedures and evacuation routes.
Know locations of extinguishers in your area and how to use them.
Always sound the alarm regardless of fire size.
Avoid smoky conditions.
Ensure area is evacuated.
Don’t attempt to fight unless:
 Alarm is sounded.
 Fire is small and contained.
 You have safe egress route (can be reached without exposure to fire).
 Available extinguishers are rated for size and type of fire.

Dispose of waste promptly

Do not wedge open fire doors
Do not block fire escapes
