ABMA 1

Summary

In the film (Bayaning third world), two producers make this film
wandering on the life of Rizal. The short film showed the truth about the life
of our national hero- Rizal. The film wasn’t just any ordinary film, it narrates
the certain facts and comments about Rizal’s heroism, death, and its effect
on the media, currency and even other businesses. The first topic they talked
about was “who/what is Rizal?” where they tackled about Rizal as a hero.
We may not notice it but Rizal is with us from the day we were born. The
second topic was about Rizal’s life as a movie/film. The question was about
the gender of Rizal, did he court Josephine? Make love with her? Or was he
gay? Did he have a rosary around his wrist when he was shot? They started
to talk about the dead-end issue of retraction controversy of Rizal. The two
had their research and investigation on life of Rizal by having encounters on
people who were close to him. Rizal’s mother, Josephine and his siblings
through their creative imagination.
They first interview his mother (Theodora Alonzo Realonda) they
reminisced how Rizal lived his life during his time. The next scene, they
talked with Rizal’s brother (Paciano) of course they also discuss about Rizal,
how he was prepared to die for his country, his exile in Dapitan after he went
home from Hong Kong and his brother also mentioned that Rizal and
Josephine never married. The next person was Josephine, she confessed
that she was never liked by Rizal’s family except for Narcisa. Josephine was
just sent to Dapitan to seduce Rizal and to marry. the next topic the argue
was about the retraction document. Was it fake or real? Did they fake the
signature of Rizal? according to one of them(producers), Rizal’s signature
can be easily copied. Lastly, they confronted Narcisa and she told them the
revolution that the Katipunan was planning.
She said that Rizal was just a victim because the Katipunan use his
name as their password. The next scene was their interview with Trining,
Rizal’s sister.
She claimed that Rizal and Josephine got married. The last interview
was done with Fr. Balaguer he said that Rizal was retracted, and he confess
a lot of times. In the end of the film, the two filmmakers decided not to
continue with the Film they were making and just let the story of the life of
Rizal remain on books.

Lessons learned

The first time I saw this film, I thought this was going to be a cliché
movie that talks about the national hero, but I was wrong. This film is exactly
the opposite that I expected. The filmmakers made this a little different from
the others. To be honest while watching this film I couldn’t understand their
purpose of doing this but as the filmmaker talks and search for answers, I
find this film interesting. Watching this film is learning more about our national
hero, Rizal. when ask who Rizal is, many of us answers “our national hero”,
I learned about Rizal when I was still in elementary school and from that then
on, I saw him as our national hero like what everyone else do. Less people
know Rizal’s “dark side”— controversies, I myself was one of those before I
watched this film. Maybe because we were only taught about his good sides
and that’s all the impression we get. But to be able to know someone, we
should not only focus on their good side.
After watching the film, my respect for Rizal didn’t decrease I still
salute and look up to him for his immense contributions and grand legacy
which is applicable until now. He was also a human, he made mistakes and
had flaws just like one of us. Rizal prove his passion and love for our country.
Being a hero isn’t about being perfect because even heroes make mistakes
but despite their imperfection, their heroism didn’t lessen. Overall, this film
taught us to not be blinded by the lies and search for truth.
Effects to the 21st century/ present times

The film will bring lots of lessons and knowledge about our hero Rizal.
This will enlighten the people especially the young people of today’s
generation. It will not only teach us to focus on the good side of Rizal but
also see the flaws he had. Like what I said above, I was one of those people
who never knew about this controversy until I watched this film because I
was taught the only good deeds of Rizal. this time, we should face the reality
that no one is perfect and even though Rizal made mistakes, still we consider
him as our national hero. After all he sacrificed himself for the country. May
today’s generation realize that studying the life and works of Rizal isn’t just
about knowing him as a perfect hero he was, but also knowing him as a
Filipino and as a human being who once loved and made mistakes.
