“The Use of Modern Techniques to Prevent Rock and Soil Erosion”

Introduction:

As the world moves into the information age, meaningful data are becoming the major
currency. For any development to take place or it to be recognized as such, the available
modern techniques in preventing soil erosion, such as riprap construction and or mountain
spray can be applied or introduced . Despite of the high cost of construction, this proposed
modern techniques offer an excellent solution to the rock and soil erosion problem, considering
its value. In a developing country such as Philippines, the planning and management of the
proposed project, such as riprap or mountain spray are certain issues which need consideration
in the implementation of an appropriate scheduling of works. One of the impediments to rock
and soil erosion studies in developing localities is the lack of information. Nevertheless, the
presence of ancillary data from previous road networks projects implemented in Marcos
Highway, Baguio City ,Philippines including: 1. Classification of soil, 2. National road framework.
These resources need proper evaluation that can be done through interactive interpretation in a
relational database system. The aim is to develop and to demonstrate the use of modern
techniques of integrated planning and management of resources. The study area is well
connected with the state highways and district roads, Riprap development project is located in
Conner, Apayao. It is located on the upper part of Apayao province. The climate in the basin is
characterized by two seasons, the wet and dry season. Average annual rainfall is estimated to
be 2000 mm of which 97% is concentrated in the wet season. An average of 5 to 6 typhoons
every year hit or came close to northern Luzon bringing heavy rainfalls on the basin(JICA, 1996).
More than 75 % of the land area is mountainous and the soils in the plains are predominantly
clayey to silty clay loan. This paper particularly focuses on the development of well optimized
design of Riprap framework of the municipal of conner. To prevent rocks and soil erosion beside
public roads in Conner, Apayao

Statement of the Problem:

This study is concerned with the prevention of rock and soil erosion in the municipality of
Conner. It has become a concern of public road users. This will involve modern techniques in
particular: STAAD, CIVIL 3D and Autocad in data manipulation in order to design an optimize
Riprap, to produce the most efficient Riprap and to prevent the said problem.
