Chromebook 101 Workshop

Introduction
Hello and welcome to our first Professional Development Workshop of the year! As you know,
we have purchased Chromebooks for our students and teachers to use. This workshop will take
you through the best practices of using Chromebooks in the classroom to enhance student
learning.

Demonstration and Group Work

● Rayanne will first show a video explaining the login information. She will then
demonstrate how to login and set up an account on the Chromebooks.

● Teachers will practice creating their accounts
● The audience will split into two groups. Group A will be focused on using Google
applications and Group B will be focused on how to ensure internet safety and keeping
students on track with their assignments.

Benefits of Chromebooks
● Some very low cost models
● Portable
● Fast--they can boot up in 10 seconds or less
● Multi user accounts make them easy to share
● 100s of free apps and extensions in the chrome web store
● Easier for a tech director to centrally manage
● Automatically updates software to the latest version
● Good battery life--can last 8 hours
● Built in virus protection

Best Practices
● Review the school computer use policy. We may be creating a separate policy and
procedure for Chromebook Responsible Use.
● Talk to students about the school computer use policy and responsible internet use.
● Inform IT if there is any issues with Chromebooks and accessing the internet in areas of
the school.
● The first time you use Chromebooks in your class, have a back up plan for the class to
learn material if there is an issue with using Chromebooks.
● Storing Chromebooks in a safe location in the classroom. Talk to the students about how
to gently handle Chromebooks when using and putting them away.
● Using apps to help enhance learning and interactive.
