goods & services produced in a given period by a worker, Plant,
firm or economy. It is the sum total of the result achieved by the
various factors used together. There fore in other words, it could
be said that production is the process of transformoing raw
material of purchased components in to finished products for sale.

Arm Knuckle

22
Crankshaft
It is the main part of the engine. It should be hard
because more weight is carried by it as it rotates independently in
the crankcase with main bearing.

Camshaft

It is just as bid as crankshaft but its diameter is too small.

The rotation force is almost half than crankshaft. It has gear on the
hand, which is joined with the fear of crankshaft. Crank gear is
small and cam gear is double of crank gear.

Connecting Rod

Generally, it is decribed as the one, which connects

the two parts of engine

24
RAW MATERIALS

Raw materials are the foundation of any product.

Without materials we can not able to produce finished goods. Raw
material are basic requirement of any product.

In case of AMUL INDUSTRIES they used 20 item as

a raw material. Mostly party provide them raw materials according
to their demanded product. In other case the raw material are
available in India and credit period is 30 days after checking the
laboratory supervisor passes them through production process.

25
PRODUCTION PROCESS

Raw material

Cutting

Heat treatment

Hardness checking

Shot Blasting

Machining

Chemical Dimensional

Oiling & Packining

Production process of the co. in detail as under…….

26
A. RAW MATERIAL:-

The raw material received at the factory is tasted

and checked for size, chemical composition, physical properties,
cracks, blowholes, surface finish etc.

As for e.g. the chemical composition for en 8d carbon must be in

the following range of percentage;

Carbon (c) = 0.50% + 00.55%

Silicon (si) = 0.10% + 00.92%
Manganese (nm) = 0.70% + 00.92%
Sulphur (s) = 0.06% + maximum
Phosphorous (p) = 0.06% + maximum

If the raw material is up to make then it is approved otherwise it is

rejected and sent back to the supplier.

For manufacturing of products the basic raw material used are…..

a) Carbon
b) PI & IRON
c) ALLOY STEEL
d) CAS

Thus generally purchased raw material from local market.

27
B. CUTTING :-

The 2 nd step involved in manufacturing process

is the cutting. This process is very complex. Here the cutting are to
be done according to the size of design required for the products
demanded. As for e.g. the size of the connecting road diametrer
ranges from 50 cm to 70 cm and according to demand and size of
the product demanded cuttings are obtained so in short heavier the
component, bigger is the cutting.

C. HEAT TREATMENT:-

This unit does not undertake the forging. It is

directly purchased from the forging unit. The proceeding process is
heat treatment. Where the operation of heating and cooling of
parts is done in controlled time and temperature conditions.

D. HARDNESS CHECKING:-

At the heat treatment stage where some micro

structure is give, the product becomes quit soft. So, once the heat
treatment of part is over the some is checked for hardness is
necessary to improve the mechanical, physical, chemical
properties of material.

28
E. SHORT BLASTING:-
Till now the product is rough, because of the use of
ramaterials Like carbon and steel. Some small parties may
be there which required to be removed or scale out and shot
blasting process.

F. MACHINING:-
After making the product smooth it requires to be given some
shapes, size, and weigth to the products. This is possible by the
way of turning, retching, corrosion, shapping, milling etc. Direct
method of machining is used.

G. CHEMICAL DIMENSIONAL:-

The size of the product differs, thus the chemical composition

also differs, with respect to be the prescribed drawings. The
inspection officer check and examine every unit of product with
respect to the chemical composition and if found confirming these
sentences is approved.

H. OILING & PACKING:-

The parts are oiled so that it may not rust. After oiling, parts are
packed and then they are reddy for dispatch, whenever the
products are to be sending to other cities, they packed well in
wooden boxes and transported by road, by sea or if required
immediately transported by air.

INTRODUCTION

53
Every organation that produces one or more products
require marketing of the product to sell them in the market. It is
only through marketing that people know about a company’s
products. The organization requires sound marketing structure to
carry on its marketing activities.

We can say that marketing occupies as important position in

the organization of business unit. Without proper marketing the
company can not achieve its goal. According modern marketing
concept, marketing starts with the product idea and ends with
customers satisfaction. Marketing may also be defines as a total
system of interacting business activities designed to plan, price,
promote and distributers wants satisfying products and services to
present and potential customers.

PRODUCT PLANNING

55
“ Product planning is the inclusion of the activities
conducted by manufacturing and producers in the discovering and
development of new product. The determination of new users for
exiting products and the reduction of producing costs and
packaging cost.”

Product planning mostly depend upon the demand or the

need of the product in the market.
This is the management function, which plans directs and
controls a material flow system in the plant to achieve the target
set by marketing with almost economy and efficiency.

In the unit, there are two important characteristics of the

product:
1) Creation of utility
2) Addition of value

In AMUL Ind. Pvt. Ltd., at the time of inquiry letter the

buyer also provides the designs and drawings according to his
requirement. These drawings are studied and thanafter if the
engineer finds that the required product can be produced from the
available drawings, he will ask the productionmanager to produce
a few samples are qualified the buyersthen the whole lot of
purchase undertake order and accordingly a production plan is
prepared.

PRICING POLICY

56
There are a number of factors which affect pricing policy.
AMUL follows cost plus pricing policy. Depending on the cost of
product the price is fixed. The production cost include such
expences as cost of raw material , wages and replacement and
rejection cost.

Raw material + labour charges + distribution expences +

prime cost

12% of prime cost is overhead. Thus the prime determined

depends upon the production cost and a certain percentage of
profit margins added to it. Profit margin ranges in between 10% to
25%

CHANNEL OF DISTRIBUTION

57
Distribution channels are system of economic
institutions through which a producer of goods delivers them
in to the hands of their users.

In now a day any producer do not sell their

products of goods to directly to the final user because of
some limitation. For that they used to marketing
intermediaries performing a verity of function like whole
seller and retailer they are known as merchants. Middleman
like broker, commission agent etc. They are the
representative of the producers for search and negotiate the
customers.

AMUL being an orginal equipment supplier does not

have a channel distribution because its goods are not marketed
in the open market. Here the autoparts are manufactured so it is
an industrial product and supplied to the industries that are
engaged in the production of automobiles . thus the goods are
directly supplied from manufacturer to manufacturer. Thus channel
chart can be creat following:

58
Manufacturer of industrial goods

Company salesman ( direct )

Industrial buyers

SALES PROMOTION

59
“ All those activities done by the co. that helps to increase the
sale of the co. can be called sales promotion activities.”

There are two types of sales promotion:

A. At consumer level
B. At dealer level

As such there is no sales promotion in AMUL Ind. Because the

market of industrial goods is not than much wider as the market for
consumer goods. But still being an auto parts manufacturing unit.
The basic aim is to maintain the quality practice to manufacture
some few samples.

ADVERTISING

60
Advertising can be defined as a form of mass
communication. Now a days advertising is working as a part of
selling and distribution.

There are many medias through which a co. can

advertise its product:
A. Print media:-
Print media includes newspaper, magazines, mail publicity
etc.

B. Broadcast media:-
Broadcast media includes advertisement television, radio
etc.

AMUL Ind. Pvt. Ltd. Participate in the exhibition holders in

our country as well as foreign country. The unit has not to
advertisement extensively because the demand of autoparts is a
derived demand.

61
MARKET SEGMENTATION

According to Philip Kotler.

“Market segmentation is dividing the market in to
distinct subgroups of consumers with distinct needs,
characteristics or behavior who might require separate
products or marketing mixes”.

The main importance of market segmentations is to

overcome the difficulty in serving need of the total market by a
single product.

With the help of market segment the identification

customer needs & wants more effectively.

We are considering demographic segmentation

and in the we choose the housewife’s of lower class and
middle class. It is also known as multiple tribute

in this unit. The management of the company tried to exists
its employees and motivates them various welfare activities.

 The unit should develop aa separate research

department. Generally the buyers send drawing with
specification of material and size of the parts. The
department see proper fixtures are developed so that
automatically, accuracy of parts is maintained.

 “ Amul Ind.” Does not carry any export programmers.

All the exports are done from the “Adico co.” the unit
should export its products to other countries. It should
make all its efforts to promote export through
government quotas which is provided by the
government for SSI unit.

 Trained salesman should be appointed for getting

orders. Also the unit should go for same sort of sales
promotion to increase the demand for its product.
