LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

I. OBJECTIVES:
 Define constants, variables and algebraic expressions.
 Identify constants and variables and give examples of each
 Give possible value or values of a given variable
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
a. TOPIC: Constants, Variables and Algebraic expressions

b. REFERENCE: Interactive Mathematics (M67c2014-c.1)

c. MATERIALS: Flashcards, Strips of papers, scotch tape and cartolina

III. LESSON PROPER:
A. DRILL
Have a drill on identifying Numbers and Letters by giving the algebraic
expression
The teacher will call some pupils to answer the flash cards as fast as they
can.

B. MOTIVATION
The teacher will show a picture of “4 pics One Word”

Ask: What do you think is the common name of the pictures?

C. ACTIVITY PROPER
Mechanics: “Pick Up Sticks”
1. The class will be divided into 3 groups.
2. Each group will be given a pick up sticks and 3 representatives by group
3. The other member will record the score of their groupmates.
4. They will engage to play “pick up sticks”
5. After which, the group with a highest score will win.

D. ANALYSIS:
 What is your observation during the activity?
 Have you notice the color with corresponding points?
E. ABSTRACTION:
Variable – represent any letter in English alphabet and use it to represent
number.
Constant – if a variable stands for one specific value
Algebraic Expression – is an expression that contains a variable, a constant,
or a combination of constants and variables.
F. APPLICATION:

Algebraic Expression Constant Variables

1. 7x 7 x
2. 8y+12 8,12 y
3. m-5 5 m
4. 4x+12y 4,12 x,y

E. Evaluation:
Direction: Identify in each of the following expressions the constants and the
variables.
Constants Variables
1. 9x+5y _______________ ____________
2. 2s-6t _______________ ____________
3. 4p+12q _______________ ____________
4. 10ab _______________ ____________
5. -8xyz _______________ ____________
V. Assignment:
Give the possible value of the variables in each of the following conditions.
1. r is a multiple of 4 between 6 and 25.
2. q is a set of even numbers less than 14.
3. S is the square of 3,4, and 5
4. x is an integer greater than -3 but less than 5.
5. y is a set of whole numbers less than 12 but greater than 4.
