(b) Express 6.567 in form. [3]
q

Ans:

Let x  6.567 ...... (i)

The no. of digits after decimal without bar = 1

So, we will multiply both sides of the equation (i) by 101  10

 x  6.567   10
10 x  65.67 ........ (ii)

Now, the no. of repeating decimals in equation (ii) = 2

So, we will multiply both sides of the equation (ii) by 10 2  100

10x  65.67  100

1000 x  6567.......................equ(iii )

Subtracting equation (ii) from equation (iii) we get

(b) Find the distance between the given points: [3]

i. (15,13) and (-15, -13)

ii. (6,-5) and (-4, 3)

Ans:

i. The distance ‘d’ between two points is given by: ( x2  x1 )2  ( y2  y1 )2

Here, x1 = 15, y1 = 13, x2 = -15, y2 = -13

Therefore,

(b) In a circle with O as center and diameter 10cm, AB is a chord of 8cm and OM is
perpendicular on AB. Find the distance of chord from center.

Ans:

At first on the basis of the given information, we will draw the circle with center O.

Given:

AB = 8cm

OM  AB

Diameter = 10cm  Radius = 5cm

Construction:

Join OA

To Find = The distance of AB from O.

As it is given that OM  AB,

 AM = BM = 4cm

OA = 5cm (radius)

The ∆AOM is a right angled triangle, so by using Pythagoras Theorem,

x  50  20  30

Therefore, the present age of father is 30yrs and son is 10 yrs.

(b) Find the value of 16a 2  25b 2 if ( 4a  5b )  125 and ab  2 . [3]

Ans:

16a 2  25b 2
 ( 4a )2  (5b)2

Using a 2  b2  ( a  b)2  2ab

( 4a )2  (5b )2
( 4a  5b )2  2( 4a )(5b )
Given : ( 4a  5b )  125
(125)2  40ab
Given : ab  2
 15625  ( 40  2)
 15625  80
 15545

Therefore, 16a 2  25b2  15, 545

(c) The depreciation on machinery at the end of 2nd year is 3600 and at the end of 3rd
year is 3240. Find [4]

i. Rate of depreciation
ii. Original cost of machine
iii. Total depreciation in 3 years
iv. Depreciation for 4th year.

Ans:

i) Depreciation for 2nd year = 3600

Depreciation for 3rd year = 3240

3600  3240
∴Rate of depreciation  100  10%
3600

ii) Let the original cost of machine be 100x

20
21

Depreciation for 1st year = 10x

Value of machine in 2nd year = 100 – 10 = 90x

Depreciation for 2nd year = 9x

As it is given the depreciation for 2nd year is 3600

 9 x  3600
x  400
100 x  40000

Therefore, the original cost of machinery is Rs.40,000.

iii) Total depreciation for 3 years is

Depreciation for 1st year = 40000 10%  4000

Depreciation for 2nd and 3rd year are given to be 3600 and 3240

∴ The depreciation for 3 years = 4000  3600  3240  10840

iv) Depreciation for 4th year

Depreciation for 1st year = 40000 10%  4000

Depreciation for 2nd and 3rd year are given to be 3600 and 3240

The depreciation for 3 years = 4000  3600  3240  10840

Value of Asset at the end of 3rd year = 40000  10840  29160

Depreciation for 4th year = 29160 10%  2916

(b) Solve: [3]

0.5 x  1.4 y  10
2( 2 x  5)  1.4 y  140

Ans:

22
23

0.5 x  1.4 y  10.......................eq1

2( 2 x  5)  1.4 y  140
4 x  10  1.4 y  140
4 x  1.4 y  150.................eq 2

Subtracting eq1 from eq2, we get

4 x  1.4 y  150
0.5 x  1.4 y  10
3.5 x  0 y  140

3.5 x  140
140
x  40
3.5

Putting the value of x in eq1 we get,

0.5 x  1.4 y  10
0.5( 40)  1.4 y  10
20  1.4 y  10
1.4 y  10
10
y 7 .4
1 .4

(c) The amount compounded in 3 yrs is 26620 and in four years is 29282. Find: [4]

i. Rate of interest
ii. Amount in 5 years at same rate of interest

Ans:

i) Amount is 3rd year = 26620

Amount in 4th year = 29282

Difference in amount = 29282  26620  2662

2662
Rate of interest =  100  10%
26620

23
24

ii) The amount after 5 years at same rate of interest

Interest for fifth year = 29282 10%  2928.2

Amount after 5 years = 29282  2928.2  32210.2
