 INTRODUCTION
Under the prospectus of the Civil Engineering Department of EVSU
is the subject CE 503 - Field Trips and Seminars. Every day starts with
something new. Whatever be the field, everything is getting advanced.
This is where the seminars are of great importance. Seminars are capable
of keeping the students updated with the technologies. Seminars provide
latest information about the things which are happening in science and
technology. Students cannot improve their knowledge from textbooks
alone. They must be take part in various seminars on latest topics. The
teachers should also take interest in conducting seminars for their
students. Inviting eminent personalities who have achieved some feat in
science and technology to take some seminars for the students greatly
help them interact with present and ongoing advancements in the
technical fields.
 SUMMARY OF LEARNING

We got involved in a seminar discussing particular topics in Project
Management Life Cycle, Bridge Engineering, and General Provisions and
Limit State held in Eastern Visayas State University, Tacloban City. The
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering 5th year students attended,
expecting much learning related to their course from the guest speaker.
Before moving on to the program hosted by Joecarlo Sescon. We started
the seminar with a prayer and followed by the singing of the Philippine
National Anthem. Dr. Dioscoro Y. Mancao Jr. gave the welcome address
and while Dr. Annabelle B. Pilapil gave us the inspirational message. Our
speaker is a graduate of Eastern Visayas State University and is now
currently working at Department of Public Works and Highways, He is
Engr. Ress Lentejas Acero. He started by giving the idea of project
management that it’s quite simple; a group of people are detached from
the company and given a goal to focus their efforts on. The size of the
group is entirely dependant on the size of the company.
 SUMMARY OF LEARNING

I’ve learned in the seminar about Project Management, Bridge
Engineering, Environmental Impact Assessment, Contract Management,
and the reality of the construction industry. Safety, health and environment
are important thing in our workplace. This is the top priority in every
workplace. Something must need to be done to encourage employees,
employer and industries to put safety, health and environment at the top
of their agenda. The most important thing is our commitment in taking the
action and our commitment to take suitable changes to ensure that safety,
health and environment is forefront of everyone’s thinking. Thus, the
objective of this topic is to know how engineers can contribute in the
awareness of safety, health and environment. In addition, an engineer also
must always keep abreast with development in order to be a successful
engineer in all aspects.
