“Water is Precious” Workshops – Educating the Young

Immediate Release

SINGAPORE, 29 February 2017 - Water Works have launched their program in

April 2015, which enabled ordinary people across the world to get involved in
building and donating a water filtration system that will effectively increase the health
and well being of an entire community. Matt Henricks, an organisational
philanthropist and founder of Water Works Program said, “One billion people do not
have access to clean drinking water across the globe and it is a dream of mine to try
and fix that.”

Large volumes of schools from all around the world have voiced out their interest in
the program. Thus the Education Programme was implemented to not only provide
schools with an opportunity to build and donate a life-changing water system but it
provides teachers with a range of information and stimulating activities that can be
used to educate students about the global problem of clean water and sanitation.

Now, Water Works is here in Singapore to spread the message on the importance of
water to the local children. Collaborating with Public Utilities Board (PUB), Water
Works will be conducting “Water is Precious” workshops at selected local primary
schools to introduce their Education Programme to be added into their curriculum.

Expect engaging activities, guided discussions and a range of audio-visual aides from
Water Works as they emotionally connect with the young on the importance of water
conservation. Some topics that would be covered include Clean Water and Sanitation
where statistics are shared about this huge global problem and About our Water
Filtration Systems where “micron” will be explained and there will be talks about
how gravity fed, ceramic filter works.

PUB, on the other hand, will be setting up booths to educate students on the local
water history and how they are managing water demands through the Four National
Taps – Water from Local Catchment, Imported Water, NEWater and Desalinated
Water. To make learning fun, students will be learning the Shower Dance from Water
Wally, the mascot of PUB. A timer and an activity booklet will be given to each
student to keep track of their shower duration. They will also be playing the role of a
junior water advocator by encouraging their parents to take shorter showers and
sharing water conservation tips with their neighbours. PUB’s Director (3P Network)
George Madhavan said, “We are a strong believer of cultivating good water saving
habits among children from young. This platform allows us to raise awareness as well
as educate and effect behavioural change among primary school students.”

The workshops will be held within the month of March, in conjunction with World
Water Day, held annually on March 22 to raise awareness on the importance of fresh
water and water sustainability.

resources, expertise and finances to the project even though it’s operated as a separate
organisation.
