Lesson Plan in Earth Science 101

(4 As)

I- OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, 80% of the students can:

a. distinguish the characteristics of the different types of volcanoes;

b. describe the different types of volcanoes; and
c. appreciate the existence of the different types of volcanoes through differentiated learning activities.

III- PROCEDURE

PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
Opening Prayer
Classroom Management
Checking of Attendance

A. Activity
Balloon Blowing
1. Divide the class into five groups ( Number Heads Together )
a. Leader- facilitates the order of the activity.
b. A person who will hold the balloon.
c. A person who will hold the pump.
d. Secretary
e. Reporter
2. Distribute 1 piece of balloon per group.
3. Pump the balloon for 3min.

B. Analysis
( Small Group Discussion )
1. Why do you think did the balloon burst?
2. What could be the possible reasons that the balloon burst?
C. Abstractions
Linking Statement:
*Like the balloon the earth also has it’s own mechanism for protecting itself from bursting into flames.
*Present a picture of different volcanoes present in the world in different forms.

Present the lesson to the students. Let them read the objectives of the lesson.
1. Identify and name the different types of volcanoes;
2. Describe the different types of volcanoes; and
3. Appreciate the existence of the different types of volcanoes.
TYPES OF VOLCANOES

Non-explosive
Lava is very runny; it spread out over the wide area
Erupt quietly, basaltic material allowing lava to flow easily
Circular in shape
Examples: Mt. Kilauea in Hawaii & Mt. Mauna Loa

Smallest and abundant volcanoes with rarely 304.08 m high

It has a single vent
Bowl-shaped crater and a circular dome around the vent
Monogenetic (means they erupt once but the eruption is explosive
Examples: Mt. Dakula in Jolo& Mt. Mayabobo in Quezon Province

Most common type of volcano

Also called as stratosvolcano
Made up of volcanic ash, lava flows, and cinders
Round or Pearl-shaped
Tall, symmetrically shaped and steep sides
Tend to erupt explosively
Examples:Mt. Mayon in Albay, Mt. Fuji in Japan and Mt. St. Helen U.S.

D. Application
Types of Volcanoes

Shield Cinder Composite

1. Each group will be given a manila paper wherein you are going to fill in the table the characteristics of the types
of volcanoes.
2. Each group will be given 5 minutes for the activity.
3. Post your output on the board.
4. Present the output to the class.

VALUING
 How are you going to show love of nature with this kind of creation?

IV. EVALUATION
