IF AN ORGANISM EXPRESSES A RECESSIVE PHENOTYPE, CAN YOU TELL THE

GENOTYPE?

Ans. For an organism to demonstrate the recessive phenotype there is only one possible genotype
that can be attributed to them. For example brown eyes (B) is dominant over blue eyes (b). If an
organism has blue eyes, the only possible genotypic combination is (bb), as there cannot be any
presence of the dominant gene.

GENERALIZATION

Image result for How are characteristics of one generation passed to the next?

Genetic inheritance occurs due to genetic material in the form of DNA being passed from parents
to their offspring. When organisms reproduce, all the information for growth, survival, and
reproduction for the next generation is found in the DNA passed down from the parent
generation

Inherited traits are controlled by genes and the complete set of genes within an organism's
genome is called its genotype. The complete set of observable traits of the structure and behavior
of an organism is called its phenotype. These traits arise from the interaction of its genotype with
the environment.

The traits are inherited through genes.Genes code for proteins which decide all the traits like eye
colour, height etc. Genes are basic unit of heredity and are located on the chromosomes. During
gamete formation the chromosomes carrying genes segregate resulting in inheretance of traits

HOW CAN INDIVIDUALS OF THE SAME SPECIES AND EVEN SIBLINGS HAVE
DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS?

After all, kids get their genes from the same parents. But brothers and sisters don't look exactly
alike because everyone (including parents) actually has two copies of most of their genes. And
these copies can be different. Parents pass one of their two copies of each of their genes to their
kids
