Semi-detailed Lesson Plan

in Grade 11

Date and Day: February 10, 2020 (Monday)


Year/Level/Section/Time: Grade 11 - Mars (10am-11am)

Class Description: Grade 11 Class Mars of Pangi National High School


Length of Class: 1-hour session

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:


a. recognize the types of claims;
b. differentiate explicit and implicit claims;
c. collaborate with their groupmates in performing the group activity.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. Topic: Explicit and Implicit Claims in a Text


B. Materials: visual aids, cartolina, masking tape
C. Reference: Reading and Writing Skills 2016, Cambridge Dictionary, Wikipedia
D. Content: Understands the relationship of a written text and the context in
which it was developed.
E. Learning Competency: Identifies claims explicitly and implicitly made in a
written text

III. TEACHING PROCEDURES:

A. Preparatory Activities

 Review

B. Lesson Proper

 Activity
 Describing Pictures
 Analysis

 Students will be asked to give responses to the following questions:


1. Why do we need to understand what we are reading?
2. How can you give an information in an explicit/implicit way?
 The teacher will discuss the topic (Explicit and Implicit Claims in a
Text).

 Abstraction
 The students will standardize the lesson by the following questions:
 Why do claims need to be identified?
 How can you compare explicit to implicit claims?
 Application
 The students will be grouped into two.
 They will go to the board and do the given task.
 Afterwards, a representative of the group will read and explain what
he/she has written in front of the class.

IV. EVALUATION:

 Students will answer a short quiz.

True or False: Write T if the statement is true and F if the statement is


false.

1. An autobiography written about a former president would be a good


way to get explicit information.
2. One of the ways of thinking about implicit information is to think of it
as predicting.
3. A lot of implicit information can be gathered by looking at a
photograph.
4. You need to look for clues in recognizing the explicit information.
5. Implicit information is written in the text.

 In your own opinion, which claim is easier to reproduce; explicit or implicit


claim? Explain why.
