New Kent Youth Republican Club

New Kent County School Board,

I would like to address in this letter to the ladies and gentlemen of the board my distaste
and disappointment in the actions the school system has done to violate our students first
amendment rights and our right to be a noncurricular club at New Kent High School.

I am New Kent Youth Republican Club. At the current moment, we

have $496 in our account at New Kent High School, we did not receive this money from the
school system. We got these funds through donations and fundraising. These funds are not
controlled by New Kent High School, New Kent High School has only the power to see how
much money we have and coordinate with us when we want to put in or take out funds. These
funds were seized from our club by the Administrators at New Kent High School on
December 10th, 2019. We were not made aware of this by those officials but were made aware
by our club advisor.

These funds are the property of New Kent High School or New Kent County Public
Schools, they are the sole property of our club. The school system has no right to control what
we buy with these funds nor do they have the right to take or seize these funds from our use.

Furthermore, I would like to express my disappointment in New Kent County Public

Schools. I am very disappointed that not only did the schools violate these our rights and take our
money, but that the school system blamed us instead of taking the blame for their own actions.
That the school system would not even try and resolve this or had the effort to resolve this issue.
I as a student have no faith that the school system treats its students fairly. And the fact of the
matter is that the school system did this to us because we are young conservatives and
republicans,

The school system is

discriminating against our membership based on who we campaigned for on Election Day by
trying to silence our voice. This whole issue is a bias against our views and it needs to be fixed.

I hope each and every member of this school board takes in everything I just stated and
thinks about what they want the future of New Kent High School to look like; do you want there
to be more silence and discrimination or do you want to have faith that any student in NKHS has
the right to free speech and is heard by those who hold power at the school. I will leave that
decision up to you.
