Introduction to computer networks, network models and OSI model


with seven layers, network layer: logical addressing, IPv4, sub netting,
NAT, IPv6, Satellite networks, Network Delivery, Forwarding, and
Routing, Routing Algorithm, The Link-State (LS), The Distance-Vector
(DV), RIP, OSPF, BGP
TCP, UDP, Congestion Control and QoS.
Network applications, The Web and HTTP, Non-Persistent and
Persistent Connections, HTTP with Non-Persistent Connections, HTTP
with Persistent Connections, HTTP Message Format, Cookies, Web
Caching, File Transfer: FTP, SMTP, PoP3, IMAP, DNS, Socket
Programming.

Objective of the Course

• To provide a comprehensive introduction on IPv4,


Sub-netting and network protocols.
• Understanding of Networks applications and
protocols.
• To gain proper knowledge on routing algorithm.
• To provide basic concepts on socket programming for
client and server.

Outcomes of the Course

At the end of successful completion of the course, the


students will be able to:
• Identify sub-netting of IPv4.
• Demonstrate client server network application.
• Distinguish among protocols, RIP, OSPF, BGP.

administration.
