ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First, the researchers would like to thank almighty God for giving them the
strength, knowledge, ability, and opportunity to undertake this research study and to
preserve and complete it satisfactory. Without this blessings, this achievement would
not have been possible.

In the journey towards this degree, the resesrchers have found a mentor, a
friend, an inspiration, a role model and a pillar of support from guide, Ms. Chislain
Aimee Garcis, the reseracher’s adviser. She has been there providing her hearfelt
support and guidance, inspiration, and suggestions in the researcher’s quest for
knowledge. She has given the researche’s courage to pursue their research, while
silently and non-obstrusively ensuring that the researcher’s stay on course and do not
deviate from the core of this research. Without her able guidance, this thesis would not
have been possible and the researchers are eternally grateful for her assistance.

Lastly, reseacher’s acknowledgement would be incomplete without thanking the

biggest source of their strength, their family, who never let things get dull and have
made a tremendous contribution in helping the researchers reached this stage in their
life. Researchers of this study thank them for putting them up in difficult moments where
they felt stumped and for goading them on to follow their dreams of getting this degree.

Chapter I

Rationale And Backround Of The Study

Social media have a huge impact on all walks of our lives. Social media allows
churches to connect with their members, as well as people who may not attend church.
Websites like facebook offer a free, easy way to promote church events and strengthen
your community outside of Sundays services. Social media can be an effective tool for
churches. In fact, nearly half of the churches that use social media state it is their most
effective form of outreach surpassing even radio and TV. But even ministers who
embrace the technology are quick to admit social media it’s shortcoming. In particular,
social media promotes hyper-individualism and an over-reliance on entertainment
which can undermine the spiritual goals of a church. When implemented correctly,
however, it can enhance the church’s community. Social media offers much more space
for congregations to actively engage with sermons by tweeting along, asking questions,
sharing photos of church activities, or continuing discussions throughout the week, not
just on Sundays. For example, between 2010 and 2015 the Big Bible Project hosted
online conversations about the bible for local reading groups and encouraged people to
share digital case studies of personal experiences. More experimental parts of the
church have held online services and used streaming to reach people who can’t be
there in person.

Social media also taking church activities back out into the online world. Faith is
full-time activity and social media is part of our everyday lives, so it is not surprising that
the two can overlap. For example, church members can use twitter to share insights
frim the bible or stories of their lives within the organisation, but they can also bring their
Christian viewpoint to discussions on local, national and international politics. Social
media is also helping to open up and humanise the church. The distance and anonymity
created between people when they communicate online can help shed inhibitions in a
way that is often blamed for abusive behaviour. But it can also encourage people to
become comfortable enough to ask questions about faith, especially via private
messaging. The humorous nature of many social media posts can also act as a starting
point for moreserious discussions about religion.
Theoretical Framework

Uses and Gratification Theory (UGT)

The Uses and Gratification Theory is an approach to understand why and how
people actively seek out specific media to satisfy specific needs. It is an audience
centered approach to understand mass communicarion. Diverging from other media
effect theories that question “what does media do to people?”, UGT focuses on “what
do people do with media?”

Statement of the Problem

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using social media in tourist
destination?
2. How can social media improve the growth of tourists that are looking for
scenic tourist destination?
3. How does persuasive advertising in social media can effectively encouraged
people of searching of new tourist destination?
4. What are the benefits of blogging tourist destination to the social media
bloggers?
Assumptions of the Study

The researchers assume that within this study, they could find a solution to a
given problem. This study also requires the researchers time and money in terms of the
researches as well as the willingness of the repondents for the prepared questionnaires.

Significance of the Study

This study is very significant to the repondents beacause most of the people rely
on social media nowadays in searching for churches, both local and international. This
study will also serve as a guide for the future researchers as a source of related
literature that can help them improve the study.

Many churches are using to communicate with their members, spread the
gospel, preach, reach and bring in new members. Churches do not usally get feedback
from the people they reach. Churches are unaware of the impact they have on the
people they are trying to reach or the members they communicate with. This study will
help the churches know how their use of media is impacting their environment and how
they can improve it’s effectiveness.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study was conducted in Manaoag Pangasinan regarding how effective and
helpful the social media in promoting the tourist industry in the place. 50 people were
asked by the 3rd year year students of Travel Management in Lyceum Northwestern
University in the year 2018-2019.

Definition of Terms

Clientele- a body of clients

Internet- a electronic communications network that connects computer networks and

organizational computer facilities around the world.

Online- connected to, served by, or available through a system and especially a
computer or telecommunications system such as Internet.

Tourist Apps- is a software application developed specifically for use on small, wireless
computing devices, such as smartphones and tablets, rather than desktop or laptop
computers.
Chapter III
Research Methodology

In this chapter the researchers discuss, research design, sources of data,

instrumentration and data collection, and tools for data analyses.

Research Design

The researchers choose a survey research because it best served to answer the
questions on the purpose of the study. The survey research is one in which a group of
people or items is studied by collecting and analysing data from only a few people or
items considered to be representative to the entire group. In other words, only a part of
the population is studied, and finding from this are expected to be generalized to the
entire population. The researchers define the survey by the use of questionnaire and
sampling methods.

Sources of Data

In this study, the researchers must conduct an interview to the peple of Our Lady
of Manaoag Church who uses social media in choosing a tourist destination, and
conduct a survey by using a questionnaire with the 50 targeted respondents. The
survey will be held at Our Lady of Manaoag Church.

Instrumentation And Data Collection

The researchers design an interview schedule as one of the data collection

instrument for this study. The people of Manaoag weew interviewed. The interview
questions were aimed to electing relevant information concerning effectiveness of social
media in our lady of manaoag pangasinan as a tourist destination. Questioning relating
methodology and material for social impact, perceived problems on a tourism
destination as well as possible strategies that could be adopted to increase tourist in a
particular tourist destination. Were asked during the interview schedule. A
questionnaire design by the researcher titled effectiveness if social media in our lady of
manaoag pangasinan as a tourist destination? Was also used in study. The content of
the instrument was based of the findings of the interview with the travel students in
Lyceum Northwestern University as well as the information from the literature reviewed.

Tools for Data Analysis

Results were analyzed using the thematic content analysis method. This method
of data by organizing it into categories on the basis of themes, concepts, or similar
features. The procedure employed are primarily designed to reduce and categorize
large quantities of data into more meaningful units for interpretation. The steps used in
developing themes included the following procedure.

Organising Data

The transcribed data was repetitively read through for the researchers to be
familiar with the data.

Generating Categories, Themes And Patterns

This is the stage that required creative and analytical thinking. The researchers
identified the most important themes, recurring ides, and patterns of belief, which
assisted with the integration of the results. The process of category generation involed
nothing patterns in the research participants. As categories of meaning emerge, the
researchers searched for those that were internally consistent but distinct from each
other. Patterns, themes and categories were uncovered.

Testing Emerged Hypothesis

When categories and patterns between them became opponent in the data, the
researchers then evaluated the credibility of those developing hypothesis and testing
them against the data. This involved evaluating the data for their informational
adequacy, credibility and usefulness.

Searching for Alternative Explanations

As the categories and patterns between them emerged in the data, the the
researchers engaged in challenging the patterns that seem apparent. Alternative
explanation were looks and described until the researcher reached the explanations that
are most reasonable of all.

Report the Results

By reporting the results report, the researchers gives shape and interpretation
and meaning to the huge amount of raw data.
