CLEANING THE BEACH FOR THE

BEAUTIFUL SEA
Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world. Have 17.508 big and small
Islands, 1.937 million Km2 land area and 5.8 million Km2 sea area with the longest coastline
in the world. the geographical location between the two continents (Asia and Australia) and
the two oceans (Hindia and Pacific) crossed by the equator is God's gift to the Indonesian
people. the function of the sea for the Indonesian people is as a unifying tool, transportation,
defense field, as the management of natural resources for the welfare of the Indonesian people.
Because have large sea area, Indonesia also has many beaches with diverse beauty and
characteristics.

Lately we have heard a lot of news about plastics and their dangers to the environment.
The campaign to reduce the use of plastic is touted in many parts of the world. Some countries
completely forbid the use of plastic bags in daily activities, other countries impose high taxes
on plastic bags, and there are also countries that charge fees to customers on every sheet of
plastic bags issued by stores / supermarkets. Indonesia is one of the countries that has major
problems in managing waste. Besides Indonesia, countries in East and Southeast Asia,
especially China, also experienced similar problems. It is not right to be managed on land, a
lot of plastic waste finally slides into the ocean. This rubbish certainly endangers marine
animals and the ecosystem as a whole. Some plastics waste also found around the beach due to
sea waves.

Therefore, we made a project to improve the knowledge of the surrounding community

about the dangers of plastic waste for the environment. The first step we take is invite the local
residents to join clean up the rubbish around the beach so it doesn’t get carried to the sea. after
that, we provide counseling about procedures for disposing of waste in a good way. We also
make mini laboratory and invite children around to love the environment through science. we
hope that through this project, public will be more open minded to the problem of plastic waste
which has become a problem in this world.
