​Explain about Power BI Desktop?

Power BI​:

Power BI one of the Data Visualization and Business Intelligence Tool. It helps to
convert data from different data sources into interactive dashboards and BI reports. It
provides multiple software connectors and services. Various Power BI versions like
Desktop, Service-based(SaaS), and mobile Power BI apps are using for different
platforms. Those services we can see at ​Power BI online training​ and that are used by
business users to consume data and to build BI reports.
​ Power BI desktop for mac ​app is used for creating reports. And also Power BI
SaaS is used for publishing those reports, as well as Power Bi mobile app is used to
view the reports and dashboards.

Power BI Desktop:

​ Power BI Desktop​ is one of the primary authoring and publishing tools. Most of the
users and developers use it to create new brand models and reports. This tool is
available free of cost. With the help of this tool, we can connect to multiple different
sources of data. By using this tool, we can build visuals, collections as well as we can
share reports with other people inside our organization. Most of the users are using BI
desktop to create reports as well as use to share their reports with other people.

Power BI Desktop Installation and it’s working:

The following steps are involved in Desktop Installation.


● First, Go to powerbi.com
● In that, products>> Power BI Desktop>>Downloads page
● Finally, click on the ​Download the Power BI desktop file.
Firstly, you can use it for free of cost. , But, ​Power BI download ​is a paid version.
You can see the differences between a free user and a paid user at the Pricing page.
The basic difference is data usage capacity. Now, you can open the ​new version of the
Power BI desktop​ directly. The below diagram shows the Power BI desktop.

Importing Datasets into Power BI Desktop:


If you want to connect with data sources, the first you have to do is build a dashboard.
The following steps are used to import the datasets.
● First, click on the Get Data button.
● Then select the data source, which you won’t connect to. You will see excel,
CSV, azure, etc.
● Now you can get clean data off web pages.
● Later load into your model.

Basic views in Power BI Desktop:

After you first load your data, then you can see a blank screen. On the left side, you can
see 3 basic views. Those are
Report View:
By using this View, we can view reports and visuals.
Data view:
In this, you can see the tables, measures, and other data used in the data model
associated with your report. And also we can transform data for best use in the reports
model.
Relationship view:
In this, we can see and manage the relationship along the left side of the canvas.
The below image shows all three views that are displayed on the left side of the window.

Connect to data:
The first to start with Power BI Desktop is connected to data. There are many different
data sources are used to connect to the Power BI desktop.
For connecting data the following steps are involved.

1. From the Home ribbon, select Get Data>More. Then the Get Data window appears
and it shows many categories to connect with Desktop.
2. While you select a data type, You will get a piece of information. That information is
the URL and credentials, necessary for Power BI Desktop to connect to the data
source.
After you connect to one or more data sources, then you may have to transform
the data so it’s useful for you.

Transform and clean data create a model:


With the help of a built-in power query editor, we can clean and transform data in Power
BI Desktop.
With that editor, you will make changes to your data, such as changing a data type,
removing columns as well as combining data from multiple sources.
To start Power query editor, select Edit Queries>edit Queries from the Home ribbon.
Then the Power query editor window appears as below.
Create visuals:
After you finish a data model, then you can drag fields onto the reports canvas to create
visuals. Visual is one of the graphic representations of the data in your model. This
Desktop has different types of visuals. The below visual shows a simple column chart.

If you want to create or change a visual, from the visualizations panel select the visual
icon. It looks like the image below.
Create reports:
In this step, the collection of visuals in the Power BI Desktop file is called a report. A
report can have one or more pages, just like an excel file worksheets. The BI Desktop
creates complex and visually rich reports with the help of multiple data sources all in
one report.
The below image shows the first page of a Power BI Desktop report with an Overview
name i.e shown in the below image.

Share reports:
This is the final step in the BI desktop. After a report is ready if you want to share with
others then you publish the report to the Power BI service. And also make it available to
anyone in your organization for people who are having a Power BI license.
To view a Power BI Desktop report, select Publish from the Home Ribbon. Then BI
Desktop connects to the Power BI service with your Power Bi Account.
Then select the Power BI prompts. from Power BI service. Now if you can share the
report such as your workspace, a team workspace or some other location in the Power
BI service.
