Issues and Challenges in counselling
Report written by; Usaid bin Ahmad

Summary
The purpose of this report is to story about issues in counselling that counsellor have to face
in counselling and psychotherapy session. One of the issues is client bring a list with them in
counselling session. Its look like common things to bring list of their problem on the paper, but
actually it is not. In this report, I will tell why this habit is not good for clients. Others, this report
is written to story about challenges in counselling. One of them is ethical issues in counselling
with children and adults especially. The common problems that therapists and counsellor have
to face include maintaining boundaries, personal problems and maintaining confidentiality.

Introduction
First of all, it is not easy to became a counsellor or therapists because they must help other
people to solve their client problem and set aside their own problem. Counsellor have to play
with mental and psychology. Basically, this report is written to tell everyone about current
issues and what is the challenges in counselling. counsellors often walk a delicate line
between helping their clients, and the ethical and legal issues that come with working with
individuals who are in distress. Counsellors often wear many hats in the course of their
position: confident, guide, assistant, life coach, advocate, mentor, and occasional work as a
mediator between the legal system and their client.

Issues: Clients bring a list in counselling session

It is a challenge sometimes getting clients to identify issues they need to work on in
counselling. When clients bring a list contained all the issues and items they want counsellors
to cover in the sessions, it would be find. It would become a problem when the list full of petty
gripes and complaints that the client wants counsellors to fix or repair for him. One or two
occasional issues are not a problem, but counsellor or therapist is not a handyman or a cop.
It shows that client can not to manage the smaller issues by their self.

Others, they could be a diversion. It just might be a defocus to take the discussion
away from things that are difficult or uncomfortable for her to address. As long as client can
make a list, and as long as counsellor address her or his list items in session, client’s
controlling the session and not doing much in terms of improvement.

Challenges: Ethical Issues in Counselling With Children And Adults
The biggest and the most common ethical issues that mental health professionals face is
maintaining boundaries. At time it can be difficult to make sure that you are not developing a
personal relationship with a patient. Therapy are generally trained in certain areas of therapy.
This means that a specific therapist may be killed in working with children or helping people
with marriage problems or using specific types of treatment. It is essential that a therapist only
provide therapy that they have been trained and licensed to provide. Part of their ethical
responsibilities is to make sure that they are only providing counselling in areas that they are
skilled.

Other challenges in counselling is personal problem. As in any form of a professional

job, a therapist is responsible for maintaining a standard of professionalism. They are
responsible for keeping their personal life, and their professional life separated as much as
possible. If the therapist can separate their personal problems and professional lives and carry
on with their work, they can do so ethically. If they are not able to do so, however, then they
must take a leave or otherwise remove themselves from a situation where they are responsible
for counselling others.

Lastly, counselling challenges is to maintaining confidentiality. Every therapist and

every medical professional in any capacity is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of
their patients. This means they're responsible for keeping all personal information including
intake forms, patient notes and contact information confidential. It must be stored in a way that
it can't be accessed by anyone, but authorized personnel and the therapist is not allowed to
share that information with anyone else. That means they are never allowed to share
information about who their clients are, where their clients live, what personal problems their
clients are experiencing or anything that happens during a session, with a few exceptions that
are discussed later in this post.

In conclusion, there are many mores issues and challenges in counselling in this world. The
question is why should we do to contain this issue. The answer is all parties include school,
parents, clients and counsellors must work together to solve or at least decrease this issues.
