The Internet is the decisive technology . As more people around the world gain
access to all the tools of the digital age, the internet will play a greater role in
everyday life. Internet opens many doors for the kids which they could not have
possibly done on their own. Internet gives a false sense of freedom, which can easily
get into someone’s head and make them almost addicted to the Internet. The Internet
has been a good influence in the realms of education, personal relationships and the
economy. But despite all the benefits of these new technologies, on balance people
are more likely to say that the Internet is a negative rather than a positive influence on
morality, and they are divided about its effect on politics.
On the one hand Internet is a good thing. The advantage of Internet influence is
their enhancement of knowledge through browsing the internet, as there are various
websites scattered all over this virtual form of library and sources of information.
Social networking is another advantage of the internet, because people are far
better connected than ever. They can communicate anytime and anywhere. Reaching
anyone has become so easy.
Equally important is entertainment. These days, more people consume most of
their entertainment over the web rather than having to go to traditional entertainment
avenues such as theatres. You no longer need to visit the cinema or DVD store to
watch your favorite TV shows or movies. All you need to do is search the Internet. If
you like gaming, then you will be glad to know that the internet makes that even
better. With online gaming, you get access to high quality games and can play against
or with other people without having to leave your house. On YouTube, you can
always find something interesting to watch and kill some time. The videos vary a lot,
from amateur recorded videos to professional production.
On the other hand there are a lot negative impacts of Internet. Spending too much
time in front of the computer screens pose serious threats to the lives of kids engaged
in the same. This way, their lifestyles become essentially a sedentary one and their
movements are minimized to the level of serious inactivity. Too much of computer
use can also cause a considerable amount of strain to one’s eyesight. Exposure to
media violence can also hamper one’s emotional well being to a great extent, which is
one of the chief health hazards caused due to excessive internet influence on people.
The Internet has been used as a medium of cyber violence or bullying. We have
seen countless movies and TV shows where the internet has effectively been used to
harm or injure other people by hampering with their mental and psychological well-
being this is what bullying actually leads to.
The biggest negative impact has to be that it really makes one addictive. It really is
hard to be a frequent n regular use without falling into its addiction. Also, how can I
not mention about cyber crimes. News that feature almost on a daily basis around
money laundering and looting, exposing someone’s private life through various
means, stealing sensitive government information are really disturbing for everyone
of us and is teh negative side of internet. Internet is open and there is no shortage of
people who access internet only with malicious intent. Such is the magnitude of this
problem, that Cyber Security now is a full fledged career option.
Finally, I have highlighted the positives and the downsides of it so no matter how
big a boon the Internet might be for the entire mankind, we cannot deny the harms it
has caused and will continue to cause to the mankind as well. But we cannot blame
the Internet completely. Life would not have been what it is today had we not had
Internet. The only suggestion here is that one must be using it for good purposes and
be prudent enough.
