Pre-kindergarten (lesson plan)

Objective:

The students will correctly identify the value, the names of the numbers and understand the
correspondence and language such as more than, same number as, or less than place 90% of the time.

TEKS (K.1) Number, operation, and quantitative reasoning. The student uses numbers to name
quantities.
The student is expected to:
(A) use one-to-one correspondence and language such as more than, same number as, or less than
to describe relative sizes of sets of concrete objects;
(B) use sets of concrete objects to represent quantities given in verbal or written form (through
20); and
(C) use numbers to describe how many objects are in a set (through 20) using verbal and
symbolic descriptions.
Materials:
 Number cards with pictures and other set of cards with the numbers spelled out on the card
 Poster board with the lyric of the numbers song that include 1-10 and 11-20.
 Make to dices that have the numbers 1-6
 glue stick
 plastic scissors
 colored pages
 note card

Procedure:

1. Review what the students already know about the numbers 1-10
 Use the dice to help explaining how numbers can be more than, same number as, or less than.
 See if the kids can still remember how to count 1-10 before you move on to 11-20.
2. Introduce new numbers
 By going over the numbers you’re giving a heads up to the kids and slowly making a
transition to the new numbers 11-20.
 Discuss with the kids about how numbers can be different in value or giving them hints in
order for them to remember which numbers can be more than, same number as, or less than
others is a good way to start class.
3. Guided Practice
 Post up the poster with the numbers 1-10 and also the numbers 11-20. Refer to the poster
board with the lyrics to the song to help with the lesson. Use the memory card with the class
to see if they understand the information.

Assessment:

 Give out the worksheets for the students to complete individually. Worksheet will have
different math numbers and the spelling of each numbers so they can right over; also some
worksheets have numbers to connect to each other.
The numbers song:

 When singing the numbers 1-10


make sure you using your fingers
to give a visual learning
experience to the children.
 Having the lyrics to the song
and the picture helps the
children brain to make sense of
what they are learning and also
helps with memorizations
 When singing the numbers 11-20
make sure that the kids see the
poster with the lyrics, numbers,
and colors.
 Take time to count the colors
with the kids so they understand
the value of the numbers.
Dice game:
 Make to dices with the numbers 1-6
 Let the kids take turns in rolling the
dice than let him say the number that
the dice stops on.
 Use the dice game to help reviewing
for the Language such as more than,
same number as, or less than.

Memory cards:

 Mark two set of cards one with numbers 1-10


and Another with the spelling of
Numbers 1-10.
 Max the cards together and let the kids match
the cards with the numbers to the cards
spelled numbers.
 If the kids choose the wrong cards then they
would have to chose another card
 If the kid chooses the right cards then keep
those card visible and the kid gets to sit down
and another kid get to choose new set of
cards.
 Use some of the problems that from the
work sheet, so it would help them
remember what they did in class the
day before.
