DLP #30
SEPTEMBER 25, 2019
GRADE 7 Science
SSC -M. Faraday (8:00am- 9:00am)
SSC - T. Edison (9:20am–10:20am)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
describe the different ecological relationships found in an ecosystem (S7LT-IIh-10)
1. arrange the organisms in the correct sequence to show how energy is transferred for them to obtain
energy and nutrient;
2. compute how much energy transfers from the sun to different organisms; and
3. construct their own food chain through hand crafts.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Energy Transfer: Food Chain
References: Learner’s Material pp. 131-136
Teacher’s Guide pp. 113-115
Materials: ICT equipment (television, laptop), activity sheets, cups, puzzles, used folders, scissors,
glue, pictures, paper plates, paper cups

III. PROCEDURES
1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Classroom Situation
d. Checking of Attendance
e. Checking of Assignment

2. Review
Ecological relationship is how different organisms interact with one another in an ecosystem.
1. What are the different ecological relationships in the environment?
2. How do they differ from one another?
3. Give examples for each.

3. Motivation
The class will watch a short video of a flying eagle.
1. How can you describe the eagle in the video in one word?
(The class will give more than 3 words. Ex.: big, strong, black)
2. What part of speech are the words given? Adjectives.
3. Construct a sentence using those words.
(The students will use the correct series of adjectives)

A. Activity
What’s on the box?

The class will be grouped into four (4). Each group will solve a mathematical problem
about Percentage. The group that will be able to solve the problem will have a chance to
choose among the mystery boxes for their activity.
Group 1 In a survey of 110 people, 25 people did not know how to ride a bike.
What is the rate of the people could ride?
Group 2 A shop sells 140 ice creams with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavor.
41% of the ice creams sold are vanilla and 24% are strawberry. How many
chocolates ice cream are sold?
Group 3 On her birthday, Inna received Php. 200.00 from her grandmother. With
her money, she spent 75% to buy a blouse. How much was used to buy a
blouse?
Group 4 In class of 30 children, 60% can swim. How many children cannot swim?

Using the recycled materials inside each box, each group will make a craft showing the
correct sequence of how energy is transferred from sun to different organisms. They will
follow the procedures written on their activity sheets.

B. Analysis
1. What is the source of energy flowing to the food chain?
2. How does energy from the sun transfers from one organism to another?
3. Why are plants considered as producers?
4. Are plants the only organisms in an ecosystem that can produce their own food?
5. How do animals and humans obtain energy to keep them alive knowing that they
cannot make their own food?
6. After the consumers die, how energy will go back again to the chain?
7. Do you think each organism receive an equal amount of energy?

C. Abstraction
The transfer of energy can be sequenced. The sequence of energy transfer among
organisms to obtain energy and nutrients is called a food chain.

Plants are capable of converting energy from the sun into chemical
energy in the form of glucose (food).
SCIENCE CONCEPTS ARALING PANLIPUNAN CONCEPTS
Organisms that can produce their own A producer is someone who creates and

Organisms that feed on other organisms
are called consumers.
Those that get their energy by eating plants only are called first order consumers.

Some energy in the first-order consumer is not used by the consumer

itself. This energy is made available to another consumer. A consumer that eats the
plant-eaters for energy is called a second-order consumer.

A second-order consumer gets only a fraction of energy from the first order consumer
that it fed upon. A consumer that eats a second-order consumer is called a third-order
consumer.

When plants and animals die, the energy in their bodies can be transferred to another
group of organisms. Consumers that look for and eat dead animals or plants are
considered scavengers. Organisms that degrade dead plants and animals are called
decomposers. During the process of decomposition, decomposers release nutrients
from the organic material back into the soil, making the soil available to plants and
other producers.
Each organism in a chain receives only 10% of energy comes from the energy source-
sun.

D. Application
1. Using the BrainPop Simulation, the class will fill up the boxes to show the correct
sequence of energy transfer from the sun to decomposers.

2. The teacher will show a news headline about the African Swine Fever- a trending
issue of hog’s disease in the Philippines.

a. What does it imply to the supply of porks in our country?

b. If there is a shortage of supplies of pork, what will happen on the demands of
other meat products such as chicken?
c. What do you think will be the effect of this issues in the producers of some pork
products?

IV. EVALUATION
A. Construct a food chain using the organisms below to show the correct sequence of energy
transfer. (6pts.)
Lion Carrots Mushrooms Rabbit Fox Sun

B. Using the same chain, compute how much energy will be transferred to each consumer up to the
decomposers if there are 75,000 J of energy from the energy source. (4 pts.)
