Dear School Administrator,

To begin, I would like to thank you for taking the time to consider me as a teacher within your
school district. My name is Kelly Michel and I grew up in Dell Rapids, SD, graduating from St.
Mary Catholic Schools in 2014. Upon graduating, I attended Southeast Technical Institute and
earned an associate degree in Medical Coding. I quickly realized that this career was not going to
fulfill my passion for working with children and so I began pursuing my elementary education
degree at Dakota State University in the fall of 2016. In December of 2019, I graduated Summa
Cum Laude from Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
While attending DSU, I coached junior high and junior varsity volleyball at St. Mary High
School in Dell Rapids and junior high basketball at Dell Rapids Public Middle School. I very
much enjoyed working with these student athletes and look forward to continuing to coach in the
future. I truly can’t wait to get started with my teaching career.

Having completed many hours of observation and classroom instructional opportunities between
my practicum, Level 2 and 3 placements, and student teaching, I have come to see just how
different each student is and how diverse each classroom will be. Watching the teachers I have
been with has given me a great deal of information on how to connect with each individual
student and how to adjust my teaching in order to reach each one of them. I will make it my goal
to identify with each student and guide them through the school year in the way that most helps
them to succeed. I want to teach my students to be productive and engaged in their studies while
also having fun so that they enjoy learning. I will also strive to teach them responsibility and
respect for their peers and all those they interact with throughout the day.

Since I graduated in December, I have had this semester to substitute teach in several classrooms
and I am beyond excited and ready to begin my teaching experience and to start living out my
dream of working with kids. I will work hard to be a creative and motivational teacher and to
bring out the best in each student I am entrusted to teach. I look forward to discussing my
passion for teaching with you and I also am excited to begin working with your teaching staff to
bring out the best in every student. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by
phone (605-370-3506) or email (kelly.michel@k12.sd.us). Also, please check out my online
portfolio which includes more about me and some of the lesson plans I have created and used at
https://misskellymichel.weebly.com/. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Kelly Michel
