RESOLUTION TO CENSURE SENATOR MITT ROMNEY

WHEREAS,​ in 2018, Utah Republican voters selected Mitt Romney in the GOP primary to be
their Republican nominee for U.S. Senate;

WHEREAS,​ as a candidate, Mitt Romney accepted President Trump's endorsement and

expressed his support for President Trump, which helped him win the U.S. Senate election;

WHEREAS​, on October 21, 2019, it was discovered that Senator Romney used a covert Twitter
persona to promote criticism of President Trump, unbecoming of a U.S. Senator and a
demonstration of pre-impeachment bias;

WHEREAS, ​on December 7, 2019, the Utah GOP State Central Committee overwhelmingly
passed a resolution of support for President Trump that called on all elected Republican officials
to do the same;

WHEREAS,​ on February 5, 2020, despite zero evidence of a federal crime committed or any
wrongdoing that rises to the level of removal of office, Senator Romney voted with Democrats to
remove President Trump from office and as a direct result received praise and applause from
Democrats on nationally televised interviews and the Democrat presidential debate, further
distorting their abuse of the Constitution’s impeachment process;

WHEREAS,​ the actions of Senator Romney are contrary to the position of the Utah Republican
Party, its leadership, and the majority of Utah citizens; therefore be it

RESOLVED​,​ that the Utah Republican Party does not support Senator Romney's actions,
expresses severe disapproval for his impeachment vote to remove President Trump, and
hereby censures Senator Mitt Romney; and,

RESOLVED​,​ that the Utah Republican Party calls on Senator Mitt Romney to in good
conscience vigorously support President Trump and his conservative America First agenda or
vacate his seat.
