GROUP FEEDBACK

LO2 With a very clear opening to your presentation you

Demonstrate an acute understanding addressed a question that was both relevant to your
of the contemporary musical theatre studies and that of your peers. You took time to allow
industry and the employment your audience signposts that would lead them through
opportunities therein. your research. You let them know what to expect,
explaining the topic, from what perspective you aimed to
address it and who your sources were, with referencing
that your audience could easily follow, refer back to
another time and learn from. This gave your presentation
a very professional tone.

You cleverly referred to information on each visual screen

with the use of hand-held cue-cards that allowed you to
elaborate freely, with ease, comfort and confidence
leading us back and forth from the screen to you, all the
while helping us see your face, gain eye-contact and allow
us to see/hear your thoughts on your topic.

The sections were filled with relevant research and a

detailed and descriptive analysis of the casting process,
though it is worth noting that Cameron Mackintosh isn't a
casting director; he outsources this to a casting
department/director.

The parallel structure of each section made it feel

cohesive. However, there were hesitations in the hand-
over sections which highlighted that more discussion
could have occurred in preparation, and overall there was
a lack of interaction between you. This resulted in the
presentation becoming sectional. Collaborating on a
meaningful edit together with all of your collected
research would have prevented this. The presentation
was the sum of lots of conversation. It would have been
useful to underpin your findings with statistical research.
However, you concluded your presentation well which
went some way to address the hesitancy and disjointed
nature of your individually prepared material.

INDIVIDUAL FEEDBACK

Your referencing a recent RCS graduate, suggested you

are working toward a matrix of professional sources that
enables you to speak in an informed way. This was good
practice. You were, however, very note-dependent in this
presentation, which, though delivering good research,
undermined your confidence addressing your audience
and allowed you to mumble, albeit quite loudly. Had you
slowed your delivery, your audience would have been
given a chance to better understand your research. There
was some off-hand and relaxed delivery which did achieve
this, and using comedy in presentation is valuable but be
sure you have imbedded the knowledge before you relax
your delivery with humor. You can then deliver it at a
reasonable place with little use of notes and then add
these techniques for further connection with your
audience. For instance, when relating your own audition
experience were notes really necessary? Keep the tone
and inflection of your speaking voice interesting:
monotone delivery with energy and volume trailing off at
the end of thought makes you seem bored with your own
subject.
