The Danger of Liquor for Health

Alcohol or liquor is a drink containing alcohol which contains 3 chemical

elements. these chemical elements include Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen which can
cause drinkers to lose consciousness. While John Wiley and Soon in his book
Introduction to Organic Chemistry explained that: “Alcohol is an organic compound
that has a hydroxyl group (-OH) attached to a carbon atom, which itself is bound by
hydrogen and or other carbon atoms”. (John Wiley dan Soon, Introduction to
Organic Chemistry, (ttp.: t.p., 2011), p. 487. ). Although all alcohols contain 3
chemical elements, but the alcohol content of each type of liquor differs depending on
the dosage or composition. “According to the level of liquor divided into 3 groups.

1. Group A with alcohol content of 01% - 05%, for example = Btr green sand.
2. Group B has alcohol content of 05% - 20%, for example = martini, wine.
3. Group C with alcohol content of 20% - 50%, for example = whiskey.”

(Koes Irianto, Pencegahan dan Penangulangan Keracunan Bahan Kimia Berbahaya,

p. 98. ).

Many side effects caused by drinking alcoholic beverages, do not need a long
time in a matter of minutes the drinkers will immediately feel the impact but because
the levels are different then the resulting effect is also different, for example when
people who drink liquor only drink in small amounts he will easily express his
emotions (such as anger, pleasure), his mouth feels dry, and he feels his body relax.
Whereas in large amounts the effect will make the drinker feel freer in expressing
themselves, the language is ambiguous, memory is weak, difficulty concentrating. In
addition psychologists have said "In general, consumption of alcohol destroys all
organs of the body gradually due to its use, can cause inflammation of the liver (liver
chirrhosis), causing bleeding in the stomach (mag), heart disease (cardiomyopathy),
sex hormones, and the immune system body. Its effects on the brain can be acute
(intoxication, delirium) or chronic (ataxia, forgetfulness, motoric coordination)."
(Aliah B. Purwakania Hasan, Pengantar Psikologi Kesehatan Islam, p. 233).

Most alcoholic connoisseurs already knew about the effects of drinking

alcohol, but they still insisted that they were able to control themselves and control
their behavior but in reality they were the opposite and could threaten their own lives.
If they are addicted and bored with that taste, they will usually interfere with their
liquor with drugs, and that will lead to more serious health problems and the effects
will multiply. That is why the religion of Islam forbids booze because it is the source
of all abominable deeds and disobedience, “O you who believe are truly blessed,
gambling, sacrificing for idols, reckoning fate with arrows is a cruel act and an act of
devil. then stay away ...”. (Al-maidah / 5: 90-91). But some argue that alcohol may be
used for less than one percent. "An ingredient containing alcohol (less than one
percent) can be used in the manufacture of food products provided that in food
products made, alcohol is no longer detected." (Anton Aprianto dan Nurbowo,
Panduan Belanja dan Konsumsi Halal, (Jakarta : Khairul Bayan,2003), p. 153).
