MECHANICS FOR PHOTO ESSAY

1. Contestants shall be bona fide students of Socorro National High School.

2. The contest shall be contested with one (1) entry per Grade Level.

3. An entry, to be considered, shall comprise the following:

a. An original 8x10 photo showing one or more Filipinos at home, in school, at work, at play, at
leisure or in portraiture. The photography subject(s) shall be existing person, with the setting
identifiable upon request of the organizer. Qualifier and winners might have to be asked in produce BR
photo size

b. Express a positive, encouraging message with no more than 160 characters. Numbers and
punctuation marks are excluded.

c. Consists one to three-paragraph essay in English, with no more than 200 words (excluding
punctuation marks) appropriately titled, that clearly explains the message of the photo. The essay shall
be in English and shall not use other language.

CRITERIA:

1. VISUAL (40%)

- Photographs/images

2. TYPOGRAPHY & SEMANTICS (20%)

- The meaning, arrangement, and appearance of printed matter

3. ORGANIZATION (20%)

-How the various elements are organized

4. OVERALL IMPRESSION/AESTHETIC EFFECT (10%)

- The overall psychological response to the photo essay as a work of artistic rhetoric

5. THEME (10%)

- The universal insight that is communicated by the essay
