We live off the Earth…

Since we share everything on Earth with every living thing on the planet,
what happens in one area affects everything too, no matter how far
away. Pollution or the introduction of different forms of waste materials in
our environment has negative effects to the ecosystem we rely on.

There are many kinds of pollution, but the ones that have the most
impact to us are Air and Water pollution.

The Consequences of Pollution

How does pollution affect humans? In the following paragraphs, we will
enumerate the consequences of releasing pollutants in the environment.
We cause most of the pollution and we will suffer the consequences if
we don’t stop. We are already seeing its effects in the form of global
warming, contaminated seafood, increased cases of lung diseases and
more.

Air Pollution Effects

We release a variety of chemicals into the atmosphere when we burn the
fossil fuels we use every day. We breathe air to live and what we
breathe has a direct impact on our health.

 Breathing polluted air puts you at a higher risk for asthma and other
respiratory diseases.
 When exposed to ground ozone for 6 to 7 hours, scientific evidence show that
healthy people’s lung function decreased and they suffered from respiratory
inflammation.
 Air pollutants are mostly carcinogens and living in a polluted area can put
people at risk of Cancer.
 Coughing and wheezing are common symptoms observed on city folks.
 Damages the immune system, endocrine and reproductive systems.
 High levels of particle pollution have been associated with higher incidents of
heart problems.
 The burning of fossil fuels and the release of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere are causing the Earth to become warmer. Read about the effects
of Global Warming here.
 The toxic chemicals released into the air settle into plants and water sources.
Animals eat the contaminated plants and drink the water. The poison then
travels up the food chain – to us.

Water Pollution EffectsJust like the air we breathe, water is vital to our
survival. We need clean water to drink, to irrigate our crops and the fish
we eat live in the waters. We play in rivers, lakes and streams – we live
near bodies of water. It’s a precious resource that can easily be polluted
and the contamination can be transferred to us and affect our health.

 Diseases such as amoebiasis, typhoid and hookworm are caused by polluted

drinking water.
 Water polluted by chemicals such as heavy metals, lead, pesticides and
hydrocarbon can cause hormonal and reproductive problems, damage to the
nervous system, liver and kidney damage and cancer – to name a few. Being
exposed to mercury causes Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, heart disease
and death.
 A polluted beach causes rashes, hepatitis, gastroenteritis, diarrhea,
encephalitis, stomach aches and vomiting.
 Water pollution affects marine life which is one of our food sources.
Remember the stories of contaminated shellfish and how those who ate them
died?

We live in an ecosystem where the action of one has the potential to

affect the many. This can be a good or a bad thing, depending on what
the action is. Our mistakes has polluted the environment that we live in
and we are waking up and owning to the fact. We are trying to reverse
the damage. The good news is that every positive action counts. The
small effort you make towards a greener environment can start a healing
ripple effect. We may still save what is left of our natural resources and
make the world a better place to live in for our future generation.

Environmental pollution has a cumulative effect on the health of not just

humans, but every living being.
Pollution mainly is categorised as air, water, noise and land pollution.
Air pollution due to various emissions can cause breathing in of toxic
pollutants like carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, particulate matter, etc.
These pollutants have varied impacts. Breathing ailments are common,
nausea, headache, dizziness or skin irritations are also observed.
Water is polluted by chemicals used in industries, pharmacies and also
domestically. Sewage from residential/commercial places and effluents
from industries are a major cause of water pollution. Also emissions from
industry cause acid rain. Ingesting polluted water can cause gastrointestinal
ailments, nausea, diarrhoea. Continuously consuming polluted water with
lead, arsenic can make individuals prone to cancer. Recently increasing
pollution has also caused mass killing of a number of fishes.
Noise pollution by automobiles, industries, machines, etc. can reduce
hearing capability. In extreme cases, it may cause permanent hearing loss.
Land pollution may impact human health mainly by consumption of food
grown in polluted area.
Environmental pollution is one the greatest challenges that the world is
facing today. It began since industrial revolution, increasing day by day
and causing irreparable damage to Mother Earth. Environmental pollution
has its own causes, effects and solutions. Looking into these will help you
identify the causes and what steps you can take to mitigate those effects.
Broadly, environmental pollution consists of six basic types of pollution,
i.e. air, water, land, soil, noise, and light.
When people think of environmental pollution, most focus on fossil fuel
and carbon emissions, but there are different contributing factors.
Chemical pollution in bodies of water contributes to illnesses.
Electromagnetic pollution has effects on human health but is uncommonly
considered in present times despite the fact we essentially expose ourselves
to it on a daily basis. Taking a look at causes and effects of environmental
pollution will pull any mind on a rapid downward spiral. Solutions are in
the works and, if we work together across the world, there is hope
remaining, at least for the time being.
We cause most of the pollution and we will suffer the consequences if we
don’t stop. We are already seeing its effects in the form of global warming,
contaminated seafood, increased cases of lung diseases and more. The toxic
chemicals released into the air settle into plants and water sources. Animals

Hii Ritesh , see the environmental pollution and degradation may rise in
step with such a rise in output, the result leading to an appalling
environmental pollution and damage. Tens of millions more people may
become sick or die each year from environmental causes. Water shortages
may become intolerable and tropical forests and other natural habitats may
decline to a fraction of their current size. The earth's 'sources' are limited
and so is the absorptive capacity of its 'sinks'. Whether these limitations
will hinder the growth of human activity will depend on the scope for
substitution, technical progress and structural change.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Environmental health can be defined as "the aspect of public health that is
with all external conditions such as all forms o life, substances, forces,
problems and challenges and any other condition in the surroundings of
man that that may extent an influence on man's health and well-being".
Disease in this sense represents maladjustment of the human being to his
environment.
This rapid industrial growth has made water pollution, air pollution, and
hazardous wastes pressing environmental problems in many areas of the
developing world. Industrial emission's combine with vehicle exhausts to
cause air pollution, while concentrations of heavy metals and ammonia
loads are often high enough to cause major fish kills down- River from
industrial areas. The lack of hazardous waste facilities compounds the
problem with industrial wastes.
The physical environment has a major influence on human health not only
through temperature, precipitation and composition of air and water but
also through its interaction with the type and distribution of the flora and
fauna (the biological environment). The biological environment is a major
influence on the food supply and on the reservoirs and transmission
mechanisms of, many diseases. The following gives the simplified
illustration of these relationships.
The scale and nature of human activities including agricultural, industrial,
and energy production, the use and management of water and wastes,
urbanization, the distribution of income and assets within and between
countries, the quality of health and other public services and the extent of
protection of the living, working, and natural environment.
Environmental hazards to health fall into two broad categories. On the one
side is the lack of accessibility to basic environmental resources like
sanitation, water, fresh air, shelter and the like. On the other side is the
exposure to hazardous environment. These hazards include biological
agents viz., micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses and parasites
which contribute to the global burden of infectious disease, chemical
pollutants, ultra violet radiation and the like which cause birth defects and
damage the body immunity system and which render people susceptible' to
a variety of health risks.
Environmental Problem
Effect on Health
Water pollution and water scarcity
More than 2 million deaths and billions of illnesses a year attributable to
pollution, poor household hygiene and added health risks caused by water
scarcity.
Air pollution
Many acute and chronic health impacts excessive matter levels arc
responsible for 300,00 - 70,0,000 premature deaths annually and for half
of childhood chronic diseases; women and children in poor rural areas
affected by smoky indoor air.
Possible shifts in vector-borne diseases; risks climatic natural: diseases
attributable to ozone changes depletion (perhaps 300,000 additional cases
of skin cancer a year worldwide; 1.7 (million cases of cataracts).
Among the environmentally-based diseases water, food and oil borne
diseases affect a majority of the world population. Diarrohea, Cholera and
Hepahtis A and E have the clearest link to the environment and spread by
both bacteria and virus. According to a WHO study, Diarrohea deaths were
around 2.5 million in 1996. Around 4 billion cases of diarrohea cause
widespread debilitations each year.
The nuclear development and use, the world over is a major threat to
human health today. The radiation hazard arising from Extra Low
Frequency (ELF) magnetic fields of between one and one hundred hertz
(HZ) as well as the very High frequency fields of 147 MHZ, which can alter
the outflow of calcium ions from the brain tissue of children, in particular
with steadily weakening resistance causes tumour formation in the human
body.
Health is a fundamental resource to individual and community and is a pre-
requisite for their social, spiritual and physicalwell-being, the protection
and preservation of which is dependent on the ecological status i of the
environment and sustainable development.

We have an enormous hausse in very many illnesses, like cancer. This

compared to 40-50 years earlier.
This is because of 'environmental' influence/factors.
Don't forget the effects of the atomic test sites earlier in time.
Think of Tjernobyl and now Fukushima.

Being a person from Delhi NCR I deeply understand & value the clean
atmosphere we enjoy in remote places & hill stations. We have moved to
that extent where a common person will not be able to take any steps to
curb pollution unless any extreme action has to be taken that's why
government has to largely intervene in most cases.
Tolls due to pollution
They may be classified into direct & indirect
Direct are these
1. Many elders have vascular & cardiac problems even though they
lead a healthy lifestyle.
2. Your face and hands becomes black after you travel in public
transport. Nosestrils gets largely affected causing to breathing
problem often.
3. Main organs which directly gets affected are ( Lungs, Nose,
Eyes, Ears, and skin also
Apart from that there many indirect means of taget on an individual which
are arguably
Air and water pollution are the two that cause the most damage.
Air pollution causes:
1. Lung disease and infection
2. Animals become diseased and we eat them and get sick
Water pollution causes:
1. Various skin reactions
2. Intestinal illnesses
3. Serious diseases
4. Animals become diseased and we eat them and get sick
I'm not going to go into detail because I would be here for hours. Type. ..
direct effects of pollution on human health. .. into you browser and you will
clearly see why I'm not writing it all done.
Pollution kills everything that is alive.
Since we share everything on Earth with each living thing on the planet,
what occurs in one zone influences everything as well, regardless of how far
away. Contamination or the presentation of various types of waste
materials in our condition has negative impacts on the biological
community we depend on.
There are numerous sorts of contamination, however, the ones that have
the most effect on us are Air and Water contamination.
The Consequences of Pollution
How does contamination influence people? In the accompanying sections,
we will count the outcomes of discharging toxins in nature. We cause a
large portion of the contamination and we will endure the results in the
event that we don't stop. We are as of now observing its belongings as a
dangerous atmospheric deviation, sullied fish, expanded instances of lung
maladies and that's only the tip of the iceberg.
