STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Increasing the quality of life has always been significant to me and I endeavour to have any kind of
effect by utilising by abilities. The ultimate objective of my professional career is to make human life
better, easier and comfortable by mitigating physical and mental effort, using advanced technology
in construction like modern techniques in machines and tools. Since my Childhood, I have dream to
build a great infrastructure. I remember as a toddler, I used to love playing with blocks. I found it
quite interesting to do experiments with new toys related to construction and machinery. I loved
watching TV shows and cartoons like Bob the Builder the most. These made me curious because I
enjoyed studying about working of machines and structures. I had keen interest in Physics and found
it to be creative and practical. Studying Science with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in
higher secondary school (HSC) was not decided in haste rather it was result of my keen interest
towards Physics.
After successful completion of my studies at HSC, I discussed with my parents and teachers and opted
for Bachelors in Architecture from University of Mumbai. During my Bachelor’s degree, I realised that
I am inclined towards subjects like construction techniques, cost and estimation, project management,
to name a few.
During my graduation, I was actively involved in organising and hosting ‘International Design
Competition’ held by Aditya College of Architecture for the years 2014-2016. I was the HOD and
contributor of the first newsletter at Aditya college of Architecture. I assisted in exhibiting ‘Toy Bank
Annual Exhibition in Mumbai’. I have enjoyed working in a team while planning for the organisation’s
activities. Also, I actively took part in various competitions such as designing river-side restaurant in
Paris for Archasm competition, participated in ANDC competition for NASA, designed and participated
in Redbull soapbox race.

During my internship at Sanjay Neve and Associates, I worked on a few design projects and a few
residential multi-storey buildings. I was responsible to check on site measures, co-ordinate with the
contractors about have the materials reached on site, or is there any shortage of materials, are the
workers given the work of what calibre, these things taught me about how a project should be
managed practically. It sounds very easy to give a drawing on paper, but to make it stand in real,
needed a lot of management from foundation to conclusion of the project. The knowledge gained
through academics and internship experience came to lime light when I worked for my design
dissertation thesis project. The project involved a lot of construction techniques and cost management
as well as the land belonged to Mumbai Port Trust. It was one project, which I used my maximum
capability and from knowledge gained over the years. My work experience proved as turning point in
my academic growth as I intend to pursue my Masters in Construction Project Management.

Due to certain restrictions on educational opportunity in India and absence of practical orientation of
courses I chose to complete my post-graduation abroad. After doing ample research, I found that
United Kingdom has good advancements in technologies. I am convinced that my academic career will
receive the much required exposure and enhancement enabling me to pursue extensive research and
excel at it. I have found that during my studies, there will be an opportunity for me to develop the
critical thinking, creativity and confidence that a student looks for. Also, there may also be the chance
for me to get involved in internships, work-placements, volunteering and dissertation placements that
will lead to immense practical exposure that is most needed in my field. Universities in UK provide
impressive education structure; classrooms reflect cultural diversity and comprise supportive
academic systems and faculty that foster great learning environment for students. I feel confident that
this Master’s program designed, delivered and awarded by universities in the UK is beyond any
comparison and will prove to be fruitful for me. UK universities undoubtedly have excellent teaching,
good infrastructure, advanced equipment and facilities and stimulating research-led training
environment. Also, the fast emerging global scenario in the field of Construction and moreover the
quality of education and exposure to research work in UK supplemented my own interest, has helped
me to fortify my decision to pursue post-graduation studies in UK. I strongly believe that management
skill is an inevitable credential required in every field today to get the optimum output. Every sector,
be it government departments, big industries, or multi-national corporations, their work is now
project-based and project management demands intertwining knowledge base with practical skills
and recent technologies. To keep up with the global advancement and prepare myself to meet the
demanding standards of industries, I wish to pursue my masters in this field from your esteemed
university.
