This chapter presents the introduction and the background of the study, theoretical
framework, conceptual framework, statement of the problem, hypothesis, scope and
limitation of the study, significance of the study and the definition of terms that can help
to present the study. From the point of view of the buyer, it has become quite difficult to
make purchase decision as results of so many available options which are so close in
comparison.
Introduction
Nowadays, through the advancement of the technology new generations are living
in a new era wherein instant messaging and video conversation are used to communicate
with each other. The internet has now become part of daily life due to major developments
in recent years. Internet café had emerged as a significant industry. Internet cafes differ
according to young people residential condition and socio economic status. (Tugran 2016,
Gorkemli, 2017 cited by Cakmak and Aktan 2018) The modern means of communication,
entertainment and studies changed the way people live and communicate (Montrieux, et
al 2015 cited by Montero, MBA, Balacuit, Jr., MAEd)
The Internet had a big impact to the improvement of teaching, learning, and
research and education system in general, regardless how far or near the location to have
access to an internet. Today, Internet has become the first choice in getting some relevant
information of a student also a teacher because of information sources that supplement
the libraries around the globe. May colleges and institutions of learning process provide
bewildering array of online and electronic information, it helps student and teachers to
had access to electronic resources anywhere around their institutions and colleges
through the use of internet. (Al-Jurf, 2007 as cited by Manirr Adbullahi Kamba Ph D and
Yahya Muhammd Sulaiman, 2016)
Through the emerging form of internet access for the people who have a lower
socioeconomic status but have begun to adopt information and communication
technologies on a massive scale. Coin operated machine (Peso-net) emerge like a
computer we know that has a wooden cover. It is operated as independent
microenterprises, in can be set up along the streets in slum communities. (Qui, 2017 as
cited by Soriano 2019)
Technology has been part of the lives of many people in their daily work that’s why
students are still seeking for convenient and affordable price that they can use with no
hassle and was able to manage and perform a wider variety of task than before. This
machine (Peso net) becomes a substitute for the internet shops that offer a cheaper
amount and it was introduce since early 2010. It is a combination of PC rental and Arcade
service wherein, customers can pay the services by inserting coins to the machine.
(Mationg, 2013)
A study from Nigeria investigate the accessibility and affordability and use among
student in using and renting computer to an Internet Café. The objective of the study was
to determine the level of an internet accessibility and affordability and the utilizations by
student. The findings of the study indicate that the majority of student had access and
use an internet for academic and entertainment purposes from renting a computer but
limitations in the internet access was the major challenges faced by the student stated on
the study. (Kamba, 2008 as cited by Manirr Adbullahi Kamba Ph D and Yahya Muhammd
Sulaiman, 2016)
The internet has widely used by new generations in the country. Through the year
pass by, people usually go into trending devices, play online games that is trend in social
media to fulfil their wants and needs. Internet shops could be helpful to some of them
because of the accessibility and affordability when they use it. Internet café are most
popular business in the country that offers computer rental with internet connection. Still
they are looking for the substitute to internet that will provide them a cheaper amount in
renting a computer with internet connection. (Mationg, 2013)
A study from Turkey investigates the flow of experience who plays computer
games at Internet Café. They observed and interviewed some people ages 14 to 20 years
old about the environment of an internet café and the game experiences they
encountered and came up with the result of people affects most in the following factors.
First, the game genre, goad and visual appearances and Second, flow experiences and
motivations of adolescents. (Nuri Kara and Kursat Cagilatay: 2013)
Service quality is becoming one of the most important aspects in the field of
services. Customers are now aware of the level of the service they get that service
provider must give attention in order to provide them more satisfaction which can lead to
better loyalty from customers. (Spreng, Mackoy, 1996 as cited by Joudeh and Dandis,
2018.
Thus, this research was to determine the satisfaction of the consumer with the
usage of internet vending machine (Peso-net) and renting computers to an internet café.
Theoretical Frame work
The Zeithaml and Bitner model (2012) suggested that satisfaction is not the just
only in the assessment of the service but t influenced also by other. Customer satisfaction
is influenced by customer perception of service quality, product quality, and price by
situational and personal factors of the customer.
Service quality and Product quality was the evaluation of a service and product by
customers to achieve by comparing it is actual performance and genera expectations of
its performance. It can also refers to the different expectations of a customers toward the
service by its performance. (Parasuraman et al., 1988; 1985)
Customer Satisfaction may refer to the conscious evaluation of the quality or price
ratio, the price difference by a customer. Customer intended to buy a product if she/he
had the willingness to buy it regardless if the price is costly or not. (Supphellen and
Nysveen; Zaithaml Bery and Parasurman 1996)
There are several kind of Situational Factors that affects the customer satisfaction
depending on a situation encountered by student, internet was an essential tool for
learning process and facilitating academic activities in tertiary level institutions from
Nigeria. Internet plays a vital role in teaching, research and learning process of an
individual and it’s emerge new form of knowledge and relevant information, (Mohammed
Abdullahi Jibrin, Muhammad Ndagie Musa, Tahiru Shittu: 2017)
Lucas and Henry point out the some Personal factors of a user of an internet or
computer. First was the competitions among its users, some players wanted to be the
best player of the game, Second. They being challenge and push themselves to beat the
game or get to the highest levels, Thirds, social interactions and social experience with
friends, Fourth, to have pass time and alleviate boredom, Fifth, to dong things that they
cannot do in real life such as drive cars, to be soldier or a legend, Lastly, Stimulation, they
play game because of excitement. (Lucas and Sherr; 2004)
According to another study, it also affect the preferences of customer base on the
basic environment of the internet café. In addition, it increase the motivations of a
customer if the expectations has been met like good interactions with other customer,
ambiance and etc. (Kara and Cagiltay; 2013)

The figure above shows the factors affecting customer satisfaction in using a
computer and an independent variables that is needed to get the satisfaction of the
students in two places for comparison analysis.
Convenience in terms of being a tools that facilitate and support educational and
academic activities, in institutions of learnings. Today electronic books, journals,
reference materials, online catalogues and information in various media are available and
accessible on the internet. (Ajegbomogun, 2011 as cited by Kamba, 2008).
Affordability has an impact for the customer satisfaction because people find a
shop wherein they can rent a computer in a cheaper amount of money to use an internet
connection. Through these people will be able to fulfil their wants as they could easily
access into internet and also fulfil their necessities. (Mationg, 2013).
There are several kind of Situational Factors that affects the customer satisfaction
depending on a situation encountered by student, internet was an essential tool for
learning process and facilitating academic activities in tertiary level institutions from

The figure above shows the input, process and output of the research. The input
comes from the statement of the problem of the study which undergone in the process of
the conducting survey to our respondents.
After the survey the researchers gathered the data through the answer from
questioner of the survey then they got the statistical treatment when the data is all
gathered and the process is the interpretation of data.
Statement of the Problem
The problem of this study is to determine the student satisfaction in using Peso-
net and Non Peso-net computers in computer shop. Furthermore, it will attempt to answer
the following research questions:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondent?
1.1 Age
1.2 Gender
2. What is your purpose for renting a computer?
2.1 For research and doing educational activities
2.2 For gaming purposes
2.3 For opening account with social media accounts
3. What do you consider in choosing a computer shop based on the physical
specifications of the computer?
3.1 Internal Specifications
3.2 Input devices
3.3 Output devices
4. What factors affect the satisfaction of the respondents in renting a computer shop
based on the variables?
4.1 Convenience
4.2 Affordability
5. Is their significant relationship between the demographic profile of the respondents and
the factors affecting their computer satisfaction?
Scope and Limitations
The business of Peso-Net was widely being popular here in the Philippines but
before students are renting a computer to an Internet Café. The researcher choose
Guitnang Bayan 1 near the San Mateo Municipal College because the area is surrounded
of many business establishments, especially of renting computers. Some offers different
prices depending on the addition of the services.
An internet Café was being known almost a decade because of its help of the daily
lives of individuals but because of the changes of our surrounding, people was looking
for another product that can be access easily and satisfy their need.
Researcher choose the student of San Mateo Municipal College as a test subject
to know if they are satisfy in renting computers at Internet Café or Peso-net. Student in
this college are too much expose of this kind of product and services because of the
needs of this kind of services that may help their study.
Researcher, wanted to know what makes a person satisfy in using and renting a
computers. What makes Internet Café become popular than to Peso-net or vice-versa
Significance of the study
Students of San Mateo Municipal College- this study will provide the relevant
information that they may use as basis in choosing a right services for their need and to
know what are the disadvantage and advantage of using this kind of services
Respondents of the Study- this will help them to know what makes them satisfy in using
the different services and also in can be used as guide for them to create their own criteria
or preference to use and rent a computer.
Owner of Internet Café- the result of this study will help the owner to improve their
service and to have a loyal customer. This study may serve as a guide for them to improve
the quality of their services and to attract more customer
Owner of Peso-Net Shop- this study may help small business owner to be more
competitive to their competitors in terms of using this study as guide to improve their
services also to get more profit by having a repetitive customer
Present Researcher- we, the researcher will gain another knowledge that may we use
near the future. Conducting this kind of research determine what makes us/them satisfy
in using this two kind services also it serves as a training for ourselves that may we use
near the future.
Future Researcher- this study would help them to be more knowledgeable in making
their own research. It will help them to be a better analyst and may serve also as future
reference for more studies.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Service quality – An assessment of how well a delivered service conforms to the client’s
expectation. Service business operators often assess the service quality provided to their
customers in order to improve their service, to quickly identify problems, and to better
assess client satisfaction.
Product quality- Means to incorporate features that have a capacity to meet consumer
needs, wants and gives customer satisfaction by improving product and services and
making them free form any deficiencies or defects.
Personal Factors- Are the individual factors to the consumer that strongly influences
their buying behaviours, these factors vary from person to person that result in a different
set of perceptions, attitudes and behaviour towards certain goods and services
Price- Is the quantity of payment or compensation given by one party to another in return
for one unit of goods or services
Accessibility- Extent to which a consumer or user can obtain a good or services at the
time it is needed
This chapter shows related articles about the study. It includes foreign and local
literatures and articles that is related to the research. The articles helped the project
proponents to know the strength and weakness of the study.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
Thus, today, students simply gathered information from the internet that can help
them for their assignments. Majority of the students tended to view the internet as a
functional tool wherein it is possible that students may be satisfied from internet usage
and keep on using it, this is the students who saw the positive attitude toward the internet
and demonstrate a better communication skills. (Goyal, Purohit, Bhaga 2011)
Computer games consider can be as surreal and outrageous, Many people are
trouble with the themes constitute certain games and concerned intensity of involvement
and amount of time that youth devote to playing computer games, However some games
can be quite instructive and enlightening . Online computer games show potential not just
for engaging and entertaining users but also in learning , playing some computer games
you about learn about some different language to easily communicate with your co-player
(Turgut, Irgin 2009)
This internet became the major factor in the human knowledge development and
also in business management. It became important to the users in everyday lives. This
can creates a better communication, responds instantly and helps students in gathering
information that they used for their research. Internet provides convenience and low cost
especially to the low-income learners. (Daraha 2013)
Access to the internet originally was for sharing information among researcher but
it was turned to be a tool for academic purposes and support educational matters. Today,
electronic books, journals, reference material, online database, online catalogues and
sources of information that can be access through the use of internet. (Cited by Manir
Abdullahi Kamba PhD and Yahya Muhammd Sulaiman: 2016)
Internet Cade offer a great assistance to student for their assignments and other
academic purposes, However, it creates problem among the student because of being
addict in playing online game that causes in skipping their class. On the other hand, some
improved their academic performance by using useful information relating to their
subjects. (Kanlaya Daraha: 2013)
AFFORDABILITY
The internet café accessibility, affordability and use among students in higher
institution on learning, Majority used the internet for academic and entertainment purpose
from the institutional café. Internet accessibility, level of experience on internet utilization
was high and limitations in the internet access time, low bandwidth, inadequate access
points and power outage were the major challenges faced by the students under study to
enhance and optimize
Internet Cafes are the kind of informal learning environment that affords sustained
social interaction and leisure use of computer with virtually full user autonomy. According
to the result came from Turkey about Internet Café, most of people there are prefer to go
in internet shop because of because of it was afford by student and prefer Internet Café
for entertainment. (Nuri Kara and Kursat Cagiltay: 2013)
SITUATIONAL NEEDS
The use of technology is changing the way things are done, including the work in
tertiary institution where the teaching and learning process required a great deal of
improvement. Knowing fully that internet is an essential tool for facilitating academic
activities in tertiary institution, for a number of years now the managers of these tertiary
institutions of learning have invested heavily in establishing internet services in their
school, the service provided by internet had a major impact in relating to the study or the
teaching and learning methods that they use. (Jirbin, Musa, Shittu 2017)
In the modern world with the dominance of the internet, the more internet users on
the area near at educational institutions where students can easily access the internet for
their online task. The most practiced and very much effective management strategies are
on providing secrecy to users’ file and producing computers with new and updated
installed apps or programs. The common problems encountered by the most was getting
low generated income because of close and strong competition among other internet
cafes. (Montero MBA, Balacuit MAEd 2008)
The digital game interaction of young people was being focus on internet cafes.
Young people go to internet café to spend their free time and they are exposed to digital
violence when they playing games, some of who play online games enjoy some of the
violence in the games they play and also they use slang and abuse communication in the
other hand, sometimes it helps them to have a good time. (Dr.Cakmak, Dr. Aktan 2018)

RESEARCH METHODOLGY
This chapter presents the research design and methodology, sampling technique
used, research instrument, procedures and statistical tools used by the researchers to
gather information and validate the data to aim the proper and accurate result of data.
Methods of Research
The Researcher conducted this study to gain information and understand the
Comparison in internet café and peso-net. In order to make the data, quantitative
approach will be used to quantify the problem by way of generating numerical data or
data that can be transformed into usable statistics. It will be used to quantify the student
The respondents of this study are those students who are using computer in
internet café and peso-net computers in computer shops. The survey is intended for 30
respondents in internet café from Ampid 1 and 30 respondents in peso-net computer shop
from Guitnang Bayan 1, San Mateo, Rizal. They are described according to their
demographic profile such as sex (male and female) followed by the main question for
The instrument use by the researcher to gather the data is the survey
questionnaire, it is consist of several factors that can affect to the students in using Peso-
net computer and computer in internet café that is validated by the statistician. Also the
researchers use the scale basis to rate the twenty four (24) questions that is given to the
respondents.
statistician and conducted a survey for 30 respondents in Peso-net from Guitnang Bayan
1 and 30 respondents in Internet Café from Ampid 1. Also the researchers conducted a
pre-test validation for the survey questionnaire if the survey question is valid and the five
(5) pre-test validation was conducted in San Mateo Municipal College. The result in
survey was used as a measurement of data and it provides information about the purpose
of the research.
Statistical Treatment of the data
The statistical method and measurement applied in analyzing and gathering data
are Percentage and Chi Square. Percentage was used to represent the personal
information variables, while Chi square was used in this study to determine if there is a

The table above shows the age bracket of the respondents from Computer shop
and Peso-net shop who answer the survey questionnaire. From the computer shop the
age bracket who answer the highest percentage are 18-20 years old, they are mostly the
customer from the computer shop, followed by ages 15-17 and 21-23 years old who got
both 23%. From Peso-net the highest percentage also who answer the survey
questionnaire are those 18-20 years old which is 60%, they are also the common
customer of the peso-net shop, followed by ages 21-23 who got 33%. The least customer
in the peso-net are ages 15-17 that is 7%.

The table above shows the gender who are the most commonly customer of the
Computer shop and Peso-net shop. From the computer shop, mostly of the customer are
male that has the percentage of 73% and female got 27%. Also from the peso-net shop
the highest percentage of the customer are male who got 80% and the female has 20%.

The table above shows the ranking of the answer of the respondents from the
question; what is your purpose for renting a computer? From the computer shop the 25
respondents answered for research purposes that is placed to be the rank 1, 16
respondent answer their purpose for renting a computer is for gaming which is the rank 2
and 9 respondents renting a computer for opening account with social media that is in the
rank 3. While the 25 respondents in peso-net shop also answered for research purposes
when they are renting a computer and it is the rank 1. Rank 2 is for gaming purposes
which has 17 respondents and 6 respondents answer for opening account with social
media that is rank 3.

The table above shows the percentage of internal specification based on the
answer of the respondents from the survey questionnaire. From the computer shop, the
CPU i5 has the highest percentage of 54% among the i3 and i7. On operating system
windows 7 got the highest percentage of 80% and windows 8 and 10 have both 10%. The
4gb ram has 57% answer base on the respondents while the rom got 86% on 500gb.
From the peso-net shop, the respondents prefer to have i3 in the CPU that has
56% on the survey questionnaire. Also the respondents chose the windows 7 for the
operating system that has 57%. The ram 8gb in peso-net got the highest percentage of
50% while the rom has 87% answer by the respondents on 500gb.

The table above shows the ranking of the answer of the respondents in choosing
input devices. From the computer shop, the rank 1 has 28 respondents who prefer to
have designed keyboards when they are renting computer. Rank 2 has 8 respondents for
microphones and audio recorders. For rank 3 it has 6 respondents who answer for graphic
tables for photo and rank 4 has 5 respondents in digital cameras. From peso-net shop,
the rank 1 also prefer for designed keyboard which has 26 respondents. Rank 2 has 6
respondents for graphic tables for photo and there’s 4 respondents in rank 3 for
microphones and audio recorders. In rank 4 there is no respondent for digital camera
which represents that in peso-net shop there is no significant factor to it.

The table above shows the ranking of the answer of the respondents in choosing
output devices. From the computer shop, the rank 1 has 19 respondents who prefer to
have wide screen display when they are renting computer. In rank 2, the 18 respondents
prefer to have printers in the computer shop and for the rank 3, 6 respondents chose to
have a music player when renting a computer. For the rank 4, 4 respondents prefer to
have a better speaker. From peso-net shop, the rank 1 prefer to have printers in the
internet shop which has 26 respondents. Wide screen display has 6 respondents that is
for rank 2 and 4 respondents prefer to have a better speaker in computer shop that is
rank 3 but there is no respondents chose to have music player in the peso net shop which
for rank 4.

The table above shows the variable affecting the satisfaction of the respondents in
renting a computer. From computer shop, the factor with the highest weighted mean
average of 3.70 is the no lagging when using the computer which the verbal interpretation
of strongly satisfied, followed by 3.60 weighted mean average which is providing strong
quality network signal that is strongly satisfied. The three (3) factor which is prefer most
in communicating other by using social media and other platforms, no need to ask the
operator to extend time and prefer most to use and play online games has the weighted
mean average ranges from 2.63-3.33 that has an interpretation of satisfied. Overall the
factor in convenience to computer shop has a total weighted mean average of 3.25 which
is the respondents are satisfied.
From the peso-net shop, the two factor with the highest weighted mean average
of 3.73 are the no lagging when using the computer and providing strong quality network
signal which has the verbal interpretation of strongly satisfied, followed by the three (3)
factors; prefer most in communicating other by using social media and other platforms,
no need to ask the operator to extend time and prefer most to use and play online games
has the weighted mean average ranges from 2.80-3.13 that has a verbal interpretation of
satisfied. In this variable to peso-net shop has a total weighted mean average of 3.25 that
is the respondent are satisfied.

The table above shows the variable affecting the satisfaction of the respondents in
renting a computer. From computer shop, the four (4) factors are prefer to rent computer
because of high specification, no need to pay as much as higher of 15pesos, prefer most
because it saves time and money and prefer to socialize with other through the use of
social media with the limited budget has the highest weighted mean average ranges from
2.83-3.10 that has a verbal interpretation of satisfied. But the respondents are not
satisfied when it comes to the factor of prefer most in doing some research with limited
budget, it has weighted mean average of 1.07. In this variable the respondents are
satisfied with the weighted mean of 2.59.
From peso-net shop, the four (4) factors are prefer to rent computer because of
high specification, no need to pay as much as higher of 15pesos, prefer most because it
saves time and money and prefer to socialize with other through the use of social media
with the limited budget has the highest weighted mean average ranges from 2.83-3.33
that has a verbal interpretation of satisfied. The factor prefer most in doing some research
with limited budget, the respondents are not satisfied with the weighted mean average of
2. In total the respondents are satisfied with the given factors with the weighted mean of
2.89.

The table above shows the variable affecting the satisfaction of the respondents in
renting a computer. From computer shop in situational needs, the factor with the highest
weighted mean average of 3.60 is the renting of computer for academic purposes with
the verbal interpretation of strongly satisfied. The four (4) factors; renting computers to
communicate with others, renting computer to make bond with friends through online
games and social media, renting computers to maximize time to do other things and
renting computer for urgent research to be more efficient has the weighted mean ranges
from 2.77-3.07 has an interpretation of satisfied. In total, the factors in situational needs
has a weighted mean of 3.07 which is satisfied.
From peso-net shop, the five (5) factors are renting computers to communicate
with others, renting computer to make bond with friends through online games and social
media, renting computers to maximize time to do other things and renting computer for
urgent research to be more efficient and last is the renting of computer for academic
purposes has a weighted mean ranges from 2.33-3-73 with the verbal interpretation of
satisfied. In total, the factors in situational needs for peso-net shop has a weighted mean
of 2.89 which is satisfied.

This chapter presents and summarizes the findings in the conducted research based
on the statement of the problem and the gathered data of students in using the internet
