DISCUSSIONS OF FINDINGS

From the statistics it can clearly be understood that sexual abuse and peer pressure are the main
motives in teenage pregnancy. As said before, sexual abuse or even rape can stem from family
members or even strangers. Mentioned before, one of CCCN’s interviews stated, “Their parents
forced them in to commercial sex work.” This is a major sexual abuse that causes teenage
pregnancies. Even though the majority of teenagers were knowledgeable about contraceptives,
not fully understanding an active sex life can lead to unintended pregnancies especially with the
lack of knowledge about the use of contraceptives causing girls good chances of contracting a
sexually transmitted disease.

In the literature review, Sharonda Taylor had mentioned that pregnant teenagers and teen moms
would tend to drop out of school to take care of the baby and also due to the lack of financial
supports. It was even predicted when live interviews were taken and 75% of pregnant teenagers
would of drop out of school. However, 25% of others were optimistic and said no teenage
mothers dropped out of school.

According to Remedy’s Health Communities.com with teen births comes lower annual income
for the teen moms. It was mentioned that eighty percent of teenage moms out there have to rely
on welfare and due to teens dropping out of school, one-third of the teenage mother ratio obtain a
high school diploma. This can also cause reduced earning in teenage fathers. 68.75% said that
teenage fathers would earn a living while going to school causing more stress as teenage fathers
would have struggle with earning a living while trying to study and become something in the
future.

It was also proven that 10% of the respondents voted that the lack of attention as a cause of
teenage pregnancy. This can be justified in the literature review that social media has a way of
advertising pornographic images and videos which makes teenagers feel left out on society and
choose sexual activities as a way of fitting in and getting the attention they think they deserve.
Movies also. 9% of teenage pregnancy were also encourage culturally and religiously as they
were encouraged to have children at a very young age.

It is not said that individuals should also target messages at teenage boys. It is a reoccurring issue
where individuals only target teenage girls about teenage pregnancy and not teenage boys whom
also play a major role in all teenage pregnancies. This is why 100% of the voters voted TRUE to
target messages at teenage boys and not only at girls. This has become a major issue as it is not
spoken about enough and it is very frustrating for girls who undergo this stress.

Contraceptives are one of the many ways that can help avoid teenage pregnancy. Even though it
is mostly preferred to abstain from sexual activities, there are those who prefer to stay away from

abstinence. This is what contraceptives are made for. 43.75% respondents voted to make
condoms widely available and 31.25% chose contraceptives. A low percent of 18.75% chose
abstinence and 6.25% chose to encourage mentoring as the more natural way of avoiding teenage
pregnancy.

This also ties in with recommendations to avoid or prevent teenage pregnancy. This is why
31.25% voted to make mindful decisions, 25% voted interaction with parents/guardians and
laying out the consequences of teenage pregnancy while 18.75% voted make alternative plans to
unsupervised partying. Communication between the parents and children are good ways to
prevent pregnancy as they get proper input and advice. It is imperative to have a grown adult
conversation about sexual activities especially at a young age to instill it into their brains for the
long run.
