3.2 Control levers

All control levers send programmable proportional signals. The movement speed of the used
function corresponds to the amount and direction the lever is actuated.
Adjustable values:
 Direction of the movement
 Speed of the movement: start speed, end speed, reduced speed for all load limits
(Nominal, HPLS, workman basket)
 Ramp functions
 Assignment of the joystick to the movement is freely programmable
For security reasons all control levers have to be in neutral position during startup.
If one control lever is not in neutral position during the start-up, the transmitter warns the
user with a blinking LED and an acoustic signal (for example: if the LED on the transmitter
blinks 4 times, the 4th lever from left has a failure or was moved incorrectly).
All other functions of the system still work, the faulty function cannot be used.

Possible transmitter variants:

 6 functions linear levers (small transmitter)
 6 functions cross levers (joysticks) (small transmitter)
 7 functions and 8 functions linear levers (big transmitter)
 6-, 7-, 8-, or 9-functions cross levers (big transmitters)

3.3 Digital main functions

1. Micro switch
2. Emergency cut-off button
3. Start button
4. Red ON-LED
5. 3-coloured micro speed LED

7 / 26

3.3.1 MICRO – switch

 The system can be operated with 4 different speeds, which can be chosen with the
micro switch.
 The speed can be reduced in steps by pushing the micro switch to the left direction
(turtle) even while acting a lever.
 The last chosen speed setting is stored and active after restarting the system.
 The values of the four micro speeds are programmable in PALDIAG.NET.
 It’s not possible to program micro speeds faster than the normal speed (Nominal,
HLPS, workman basket mode).

3.3.2 Emergency cut-off button

The system is without any function, if the emergency cut-off button is pressed. This means,
the “DV” output signal from the electric box is without electrical power. By twisting the button
clockwise, it can be unlocked again.

3.3.3 Start button

Start: After unlocking the emergency cut-off button, the system can be
started by pressing the start button once.

Requirement:
 Operating voltage
 Key switch on position radio remote control
 Charged battery

Frequency switch: By pressing the start button twice quickly, the frequency can be
changed to the next programmed frequency (manual
synthesizer). The system informs the user with a short acoustic
signal and the red LED (4) flashes once.
The system has 12 frequencies programmed. After restarting
the system, the last set frequency is used again.

Test mode for Checks the operating elements of the transmitter.

transmitter:

Start: Press the emergency cut-off button and unlock it again. Press
the start button 10 times quickly. The system is in test mode,
when the red ON-LED is flashing fast.

Testable The proportional levers can be acted one by one. The system
functions: gives acoustic feedback signals according to the acted lever
angle.
Full movement is achieved, when the system produces a
constant tone. When moving a digital function, the system
creates a short signal tone and additionally the green LED
flashes once (twice for momentary switches). If the system has
a feedback system with a PALTRONIC display, all LED’s on the
display are switched on.

End: Press the emergency cut-off button.

3.3.6 Cable work

Each system comes with a 15 m long cable. This cable has to be connected to the
transmitter and the receiver. In cable mode no radio signal is sent, because cable mode has
higher priority than radio mode. If the battery is inserted into the transmitter, it will be
charged (this is not comparable to the battery charger).

12 / 26
Transmitter Scanreco P2

3.8 Additional functions

All of those functions can be programmed for every proportional lever and each digital
function in PALDIAG.NET.
3.8.1 Holding function
The holding function can keep a proportional signal active after the proportional lever is
released. The signal stays active for as long as the holding button is pressed
Application: E.g.: to activate the function “Rotator” with an earth auger.

3.8.2 Dead man function

A “dead man function” is a certain function, which only can be operated by pressing a
certain digital button at the same time. This function can be defined for each direction of a
control lever.
Application: E.g.: The movement “open grab”, when a brick stack grab is used, can be
secured to avoid an accidental release of the bricks.

3.8.3 Single Movement Function:

“Single Movement Function” is the possibility to avoid movements of certain functions at the
same time. Only one setting can be defined and the named functions cannot be moved
together.
The Single Movement function also can be defined dependent on a digital input signal.
Application: For workman basket to fulfil the EN280 regarding the max. speed setting. Main
boom and knuckle boom must not be used simultaneously.

3.8.4 Definition switch:

A “definition switch” makes it possible to create groups of movements, which are only
possible, if a certain digital switch has a certain condition (opened or closed).
E.g.: It is possible to divide 8 linear levers of a transmitter into two groups (crane / stabilizer)
and to select them with the snapping switch. The functions are available if the defined status
of the switch is active.
Application: switch between crane / stabilizer – one receiver, one transmitter, e.g. 8 levers, 4
proportional levers for the crane, 4 proportional levers for the stabilizers.

13 / 26
Scanreco P2 Transmitter

3.8.5 Traversing unit for winch on main boom:

An electric traversing unit is used for some crane-jib combinations instead of an intermediate
bracket in order to reduce the total height of cranes with fly-jib and cable winch on the main
boom. Instead of an installation directly onto the main boom or onto a fixed bracket, the
cable winch is installed onto a winch bracket which is supported by guide tubes. The bracket
is driven by an electric linear drive and is moved between working and transport position.
The system is operated via radio remote control. For more information see the instruction
manual.

big control mini control

Traversing of the winch is activated on the radio remote control panel.

In order to move the winch into working or transport position, press the button for return oil
utilization (1) and the toggle switch for engine start/stop (2) at the same time.
When the respective position is reached, an acoustic signal is given.
In order to avoid that pulley heads, reversing pulleys or hook blocks stand over the vehicle
width during transport, they have to be removed before moving the winch into transport
position.
The traversing unit is used for the following crane – fly-jib configurations in combination with
the winch on the main boom.

3.8.6 Switch between crane / stabilizers with radio remote controlled outrigger system
Controlling outriggers and stabilizers is done via the radio remote control. HPLS cranes over
20mt are optionally available with a remote controlled outrigger system. By using a dead
man’s switch it is ensured that the user is aware of switching between crane and support
functions. When using this function, the Scanreco transmitter is exclusively available with
linear levers.

1. The levers must be in neutral position.

2. Press the button 1 „stabilizer/ crane switch between” and hold the button.
3. Enable stabilizer mode then by pressing button 2
4. Additionally in stabilizers mode a warning horn (H8) is sound when activating a
lever.
5. When the button S1 is released, the RRC automatically switches back to crane
operation.
6. A switch between via the key switch is not necessary any more.

3.8.8 Switch between crane/ stabilizers by manual stabilizers operation

Switching to manual stabilizer mode via remote control is available as a comfort function
(requirements: PVG 32 and LED at RRC). The operation is similar to the radio remote
controlled stabilizers, but when the button is pressed, all proportional functions on the
transmitter are deactivated (safety function). While moving the stabilizers / outriggers
manually, the button (S1) must be held.

The error code has 4 digits, but only 2 digits are shown. The main error code differs from the
additional code by a decimal point. How often the errors occurred is saved the error code
memory.
Without PALDIAG.NET only the error code memory of the PALTRONIC 50 can be checked.
To do that, the start button for the PALTRONIC on the transmitter must be pressed during
start-up. By pressing the OLP-button, the error memory can be scrolled through.
The receiver sends error codes to PALTRONIC 50. In this case, or if PALTRONIC 50
recognizes an error with the RRC system, the corresponding code is shown on the
PALTRONIC status code display. The second pair of digits represents the error on the RRC.
70. is given to signal a RRC status.

Scanreco P2 Scanreco battery charger

5 Scanreco battery charger

5.1 General description

The battery charging unit is a “fast charging device”. Two different types of charging states
are possible. A complete empty battery will be charged with a higher current. After the
battery is charged completely, the unit switches to conservation mode. As long as the
battery is not taken out of the charger, the battery will not be harmed. The standard charging
time for an empty battery is approx. 3 hours.

5.2 Installation
 The battery charger has to be mounted at a vibration free, sun protected, “Indoor”
and dry place. The mounting position must be vertical.
 Supply voltage 10-35 Volt, protected by an external 3 Ampere fuse
 The charger has to be installed with the connection cable connected to permanent
plus (usually clamp 30).
 The striped wire of the charger’s cable is the “minus” cable. The “plus”-cable is
marked with an “L”.
 Power consumption:
without battery: 10-20 mA
with battery: 400 mA (max.)
 The battery charger has to be equipped with a pull relief, as shown below:

5.3 Handling
As soon as the battery is put into the charger, the charging procedure starts (green LED
flashes). After approx. 3 hours of charging, the battery is charged completely and ready for
use (green LED is constantly on).
After a voltage interruption, the status of the battery is determined and “fast charging” or
“conservation mode” will be started.
For safety reasons the charging cycle is interrupted after 3 hours (whatever charging
condition is active). The green LED is constantly on.

24 / 26
Scanreco battery charger Scanreco P2

5.4 Loading cycle

5.5 Cable connection / transmitter

If the transmitter and the receiver are connected via cable, the battery will be charged
automatically. The loading time is approx. 12 – 14 hours (it is not suited for everyday
charging). The emergency cut-off on the transmitter can be pressed, but the receiver has to
have power.

5.6 LED’s:
 Red LED means, that the battery charger has power
 Green LED flashing shows the charging cycle – one loading cycle max. 3 hours
 Green LED constantly on shows completely charged battery
 If just the red LED lights constantly, the used battery is damaged.

5.7 Battery
In use is a Nickel-metal hydride accumulator (NiMH). Fully charged the battery has a voltage
of 7.2V. The effective working time of the battery is 5.5 hours. If the temperature gets lower,
the capacity gets worst, the working time shorter and the charging cycle takes longer.
The transmitter indicates a low battery with 3 optical and acoustical signals. The battery
shall be in use until the red LED is gone. Afterwards the battery shall be changed.
If the capacity of the battery is very low, the transmitter cannot be activated. To avoid
against discharging, the system shall be shut down after a certain balance time. This shut
down time is a free programmable value in the program PALDIAG.NET. The standard value
is 5 minutes.

25 / 26
Scanreco P2 Programming

6 Programming
The programming of the new radio remote control system can only be done via the
PALFINGER software PALDIAG.NET.
After changing the transmitter or changing transmitter parameters with PALDIAG.NET, the
system has to be paired again (teach mode).

6.1 Teach mode transmitter & receiver

 Power off crane and remote system (Switch off “Crane Power On”)
 Establish the cable connection between transmitter and receiver (grey cable)
 Start receiver  turn on “Crane Power” (must not be switched on longer than 1
minute)
 Start the transmitter  release the emergency cut-off, press the start button and
keep it pressed
 After approx. 5 seconds an acoustic signal is given  teach mode is started
 Release the start button
 After about 30 seconds, the successful programming is signalled by 5 acoustic
signals at the transmitter.
 A failed programming procedure is signalled by a long acoustic signal. Then the
process must be restarted.
