More Imperatives
Many libraries are in the process of switching from print versions to CD-ROM versions
of their most popular reference books.
The reason is that users can search CD-Rom databases much more quickly than
books and that CD-ROM ´s are compact sources of information.

Using CD-ROM
Quick guide
The great thing about CD-ROM is that they are easy to use, but even so , they take
some practice.
1. Make sure you have the right CD-ROM: They do not display their contents as
obviously as a book, it´s easy to get the wrong one.
2. Be sure you understand how to conduct a search or ask for help! Each database
has a different set of rules for searching.
4. Identify the word and synonymous that most clearly pin-point your subject.
5. Combine these words with AND, OR, NOT to find the exact information you look for.
6. Understand what the limits of your CD-ROM are. Its database “back files” may not
go back far enough to meet your needs.
7. Find out how frequently the CD-ROM has been updated. Most CD´s are updated
monthly , but some librarians may not have had the chance to load the latest vesion.
7. Don´t rely on CD- ROM , you may need to find the latest print materials or
conduct an on-line computer search.

Most students answer “yes” when asked whether a computer helps them with
their writing. If you ask this students to explain their answer, they tell you that
they stay at a piece of wiriting longer with a computer, that they experiment
more, that they like the way they can move information around, and that they
have a better attitude toward writing in general.

6.that gives you total control of the database.
7.These two methods are not mutually exclusive; in fact, there are many
