to provide continuous feedback on the student’s performance, thus giving him/her an opportunity
for reflection and self-correction.

Advance preparation for the class is a must in this course. It is expected that the student will attend
the class only after thoroughly reading the prescribed reading material, which, to be fair, will be
limited to a reasonable number of pages per day/ session. Then, class room engagement would be
primarily to clarify issues/ concerns and to build capabilities. Students must clearly note that class
attendance is not a substitute for advance preparation and self-learning.

Assignment – Purpose and Description

This assignment provides an opportunity to get hands-on experience applying perfromance management theory
into practice. In the process, the students will get a chance to
(a) evaluate the applicability of the textbook theories in real time situations and
(b) to understand the application of concepts in real time scenario

The assignment should be more focused to the topic. The members of the group can share the tasks among
themselves, but a member of the group cannot be ignorant of the work done by other members. Any student
showing less than the minimum required interest in the assignment would be advised to withdraw from the
assignment and if it is proven right 0 marks will be awarded for the component. The members of the group have
the right to charge a complaint (to the Facilitator) against any of their group members for not cooperating for the
successful completion of assignment. On such happenings the Facilitator has the right to enquire on the issue and
take action at the interest of other members.

The assignment should be completed by passing through various phases. The details are as follows.

(1) Conceptual framework,

(2) Review of literature
(3) Indian and Foreign scenario
(4) Industry Practices and Conclusion

Phase 1: The students have to be thorough with the conceptual details specific to their assignment topic. It needs
extensive reading on the topic from specialized books on the topic. The articles from outstanding journals and
magazines can be referred to know the contemporary details of the topic. All the groups have to submit a report
containing the conceptual details of topic and related concepts chosen.

Phase 2: The students are expected to refer sufficient number of (I generally recommend 10 articles) articles from
magazines and journals. The articles should be from Indian context as well as from international context. The
groups have to prepare a report on the articles referred by documenting their overall understanding. They are also
expected to write a paragraph (not less than 10 lines) on each of the article referred. The reports should also
contain a comprehensive comparative table showing the details (title, authors, objective, sampling, data used,
statistical tools used, variables used, and their findings and conclusions) of all the 10 articles.

Phase 3: At the third level students are expected to submit their understanding on the chosen topic from the Indian
and International Perspective. The students should be able to manage to collect information. This part of the work
will be assumed to be learning of emerging trends at national and international level.

Phase 4: The students are expected to gather/collect and compile the information on industry practices which
would fill the gap between the theory and practice. And the group is expected to write the conclusion of the topic
based on the learning from the previous three phases.
