II. Establishment

The Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College (SSVTC)

located at Pag-asa, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro. was first

establishment at Pag-asa Barrio High School on August 9, 1969

through the initiative of Barangay Captain then, Hon. Victorio L.

Suan. It was converted into a municipal High School naming it as

Bansud Municipal High School when it faced closure in 1947 due to

its violation of the Barrio High School Act or RA 6054. It was

later renamed Simeon Suan Memorial Municipal High School in 1979

in honor of the donor of the School Site. The site has a total

land area of 11,916.75 which is fully utilized.

An assessment of the school’s performance over the years

brought out the need for its conversion into a vocational school.

Thus, 1995 the Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College

(SSVTC) under the supervision of Technical Education and Skills

and Development Authority (TESDA)

In accordance there to, and upon insurance of a permit from

TESDA, SSVTC Started its operation on July 1, 1997 with an

3
initial enrolment of 174 for the first semester SY 1997-1998 for

the four 2-year courses as follows:

Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology, Food Preparation

and Service and Service Technology, Garments Technology.

The Technical Education and Skills Authority (TESDA) was

established through the enactment of Republic Act No. 7796

otherwise known as the “Technical Education and Skills

Development Act of 1994”, which was signed law by President Fidel

V. Ramos on August 25, 1994. This Act aims to encourage the full

participation of and mobilize the industry, labor, local

government units and Technical Vocational institutions in the

skills development the country’s human resources.

The merging of the National Manpower and Youth Council

(NMYC) of The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The

Bureau of Technical and Vocational Education (BTVE) of the

Department of education, Culture and Sports (DECS), and the

Apprenticeship program of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) of

the DOLE gave birth the TESDA.

4
The Fusion of the above offices was one of the key

recommendations of the 1991 Report of the Congressional

Commission on Education, which undertook a national review of the

state of Philippines education and manpower development. It was

meant to reduce overlapping in skills development activities

initiated by various public and private sector agencies, and to

provide national directions for the country’s technical-

vocational education and training (TVET) System. Hence, a major

thrust of TESDA is the formulation of a comprehensive development

plan for middle-level manpower based on the National Technical

Education and skills Development Plan. This plan shall provide

for a reformed industry-based training program that includes

apprenticeship, dual training system and other similar schemes.

III. Experiences with the Workers

The worker have shown an impressive attitude. Working with

her has been very interesting and also a good example for

everyone.

Every work Immersionist need to accomplish every task that

has been given by the Instructor, All of their tasks were easily

accomplished through the guidance of the Instructor. After they

finish they’re job they need to clean the working area, sweep the

floor, clean the window and lock the working place.

The Immersionists Learned from those experiences and it’s

not just because of their hard work, but because of their

instructor whose willing to teach them and they’re also willing

to learn.

Being a Work Immersionist is not easy as everyone thinks.

It’s also about being friendly and approachable to the workers in

a certain establishment. This is one of the most important

character that anyone should have to be able to attain the

knowledge.

6
Know their experiences that might help them on their work. In the

future, when they got a permanent job, this experience can serve

as an inspiration.

In their observation, the performance of all workers was

really good. Working with them was so fun, to the point that the

work immersionist can't feel their tiredness anymore. Making

table reservation, assisting customers, making table napkins and

table skirting is the most memorable experience for the work

immersionist. Doing it for the work immersionist was very

challenging but all worth it.

Work immersionist couldn't have a chance to get to know the

worker better, because they only have 8 days. Despite of having

such a short period of time to complete their work. They've

learned and observed a lot. Now they are able to share and apply

all the experiences that they had in the work immersion.

7
IV. Experiences with Co-Immersionists

The experiences and happy memories that are created together

with their co-work immersionist is the best part of this

experience. They treated each other as one family. They laugh

together, talk and even eat together. They even know each other

deeper than before, they talked about what they want to be in the

future and the dreams they want to achieve someday.

They made a lot of happy memories in SSVTC. In every story

and closeness they shared, they got the chance to know them

better, the deep side of them. They are hoping that a few years

from now they'll finally live the life they always dreamt about.

After along the path they finally get all the best things life

could offer. They wish everyone not just a successful life, but a

satisfying one.

8
V. Learning or Realizations

For almost ten days of having a Work Immersion, the

immersionist had a really such a great adventure. It was a great

experience for the immersionist.

They realized that the purpose of work immersion is to gain

more knowledge and skills that they might use in the future. The

immersionists thought that the more they get knowledge the more

they realized that they know nothing. That is the reason why they

have the courage to strive harder in this work immersion. The

immersionist learn so many things in this experience, they learn

how to be responsible and having a good camaraderie not just

inside in working area but also in the outside.

One character in El Filibusterismo said education is not for

all, it should only be for people who has the will to fight for

it, for someone deserving of it. And that's exactly the

immersionist have learned in the whole work immersion.
