Darwin Challenger Michael Cremo lectures on Human Devolution at APOGEE 2009 BITS Pilani

By Dr BR Natarajan
Dated: Mar 25, 2009

2009 sees the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his seminal
work, ‘On the Origin of Species’. As much as Darwin’s name goes with the word evolution, Michael
Cremo’s name goes with devolution.

Darwin's Theory of Evolution is the widely held notion that all life is related and has descended from a
common ancestor - the birds and the bananas, the fishes and the flowers as a result of a process known as
natural selection. Darwin's Theory is in crisis in light of the tremendous advances made in molecular
biology, biochemistry and genetics over the past five decades.

Michael A. Cremo is a researcher in history of science for the Bhaktivedanta Institute. He is a member of
the World Archeological Congress, the European Association of Archeologists, the History of Science
Society, and the Philosophy of Science Association. He has spoken at the Royal Institution in London, the
Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, and at other scientific institutions, conferences, and top ranking
universities around the world.

Drawing upon a wealth of research into archeology, genetics, reincarnation memories, out-of-body
experiences, parapsychology, cross cultural cosmology and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence,
Cremo came up with a refreshing perspective on human origins according to the ancient philosophy of
India. In their controversial bestseller Forbidden Archeology, Michael A. Cremo and Richard L. Thompson
documented evidence showing that humans have existed on earth for hundreds of millions of years. Cremo
later substantiated his arguments in his book Human Devolution: A Vedic Alternative to Darwin's Theory.

Cremo was in Pilani on March 24, 2009 to give a lecture for the students of Birla Institute of Technology
and Science – BITS which is one among the top ranking universities in India today having campuses
presently at Pilani, Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad. Recently the National Assessment and Accreditation
Council NAAC reaccredited BITS with 3.71 CGPA out of 4 and awarded “A” grade “Very Good” status to
BITS.

APOGEE stands for “A Professions Oriented Gathering over Educational Experience”. This TechFest of
BITS Pilani which has ISO Certification has always been one among the top ranking Tech Fests of various
T Schools in India today. APOGEE which saw its silver jubilee two years back is in its 27th year and is
going on from 23 March to 27 March 2009

Asserting that humans are a combination of matter, mind, and consciousness, Cremo in his lecture at Pilani
piloted a cosmic tour through incredible enigmas of time and space, ranging from Precambrian microfossils
to black holes to superhuman beings, thus revealing the cosmos itself to be divided into corresponding
regions dominated by ordinary matter, the subtle mind element, and pure consciousness. Cremo in his own
style went on to illustrate how the self originally existed on the level of pure consciousness, in harmony
with the personal source of all conscious beings.

According to Michael Cremo when a conscious self relinquishes its connection with the source of all
conscious beings, it becomes covered by the lower energies of mind and matter. This according to Cremo is
devolution. It was a mind opener when Cremo went on to state that devolution can be reversed, and
consciousness can be restored to its original pure state by a process of spiritual evolution. Cremo concluded
his talk by suggesting that curriculum should not only focus on accepted theories such as Darwin evolution

but also should give space for counter theories such as Cremo devolution. At the end of the lecture, Cremo
answered a volley of questions and left the audience spell bound.

APOGEE 2009 with Levitate as the theme has indeed been climbing greater heights this year.
