Mindfullness

Most people think of mindfulness as relief from anxiety or depression, a cure for health
problems or a recipe for inner peace and increased concentration.
However, the truth is that mindfulness does not aim to achieve any of these. Mindfulne ss
is simply an Eastern practice to train our mind. It is a practice that cultivates sustained
conscious wakefulness or presence. Mindfulness is all about raising awareness of ‘what is’.
"MIND is the universal intelligence behind life, consciousness creates an awareness of what
we call reality, and thought is the power to create our moment to moment existence."
- Sydney Banks
Human beings have a hugely unhelpful tendency of rejecting those things that they do
not understand, and subsequently, have had many complaints about mindfulness (and
the practice of it).
For the most part, these claims are commonly based on misunderstandings of what
mindfulness is (and isn't) about. In this short article, Kain will tackle 12 of these
misunderstandings.

The totality of our consciousness is comprised of three levels: the subconscious, the
conscious, and the unconscious. Each level of consciousness represents a differing degree
of intensity of awareness…

Mindfulness is not an easy concept to define but can be best understood as the process
of drawing novel distinctions. It does not matter whether what is noticed is important
or trivial, as long as it is new to the viewer. Actively drawing these distinctions keeps
us situated in the present.
It also makes us more aware of the context and perspective of our actions than if we rely
upon distinctions and categories drawn in the past. Under this latter situation, rules and
routines are more likely to govern our behavior, irrespective of the current circumstances,
and this can be construed as mindless behavior.

Mindfulness involves a conscious direction of our awareness. This article will give you a
much clearer understand of what mindfulness is, and also what mindfulness isn't.

Mindfulness is a state of conscious awareness in which the individual is implicitly aware of

the context and content of information. It is a state of openness to novelty in which the
individual actively constructs categories and distinctions. In this lecture, Kain will discuss
the core components of mindfulness.

There are many factors that can prevent us from hearing (and learning). It's important
to become mindful of these barriers, many of which are just bad habits, in order to
become a more effective listener.
We can easily pick up bad habits when it comes to listening. Listening is a key
interpersonal skill and a prerequisite to many other communication skills, therefore, by
learning to listen more effectively you can improve the quality of both your professional
and personal life - especially if you go on to practice Mindfulness with clients on into the
future.

The Attitudinal Foundations of Mindfulness

There are Seven Core Attitudes of Mindfulness

1. Non-judging – Suspending Judgment ... Just Watching Whatever Comes Up

2. Patience – Not spitting the dummy (a Scottish saying).
3. Beginner’s Mind – Seeing With “Fresh Eyes”.
4. Trust – No Imitations, Live Own Life, and Honor Own Feelings, Intuitions,
Wisdom
5. Non-striving – Mindfulness is a 'non-doing!'
6. Acceptance – Clear picture & Coming to terms with things as they really are.
7. Letting go – Not Clinging onto 'people or stuff'.

This article has intended to help you identify certain qualities of the mind and heart, the
attitudes of non-judging, patience, beginner’s mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and
letting go, i.e. the seven Core Attitudes, which together serve as the foundation for
engagement in and practicing mindfulness.

Mindfulness and meditation have both been shown to have physical and mental health
benefits, but many people get confused between the two. Jon Kabat-Zinn, who has
studied mindfulness for more than 35 years, says practicing mindfulness is a form of
meditation, not meditating.

Mi lucha ha terminado. Estoy en armonía conmigo mismo.
