Letter of Motivation

First of all, let me introduce myself to you since the first impression always plays a significant role in
every facet of life and it always sticks back somewhere in the head. So, my name is Sagar Ashraf, I
am 23 years old “Quite young and enthusiastic to ride the rushing waves of life and success!”

I want to dream big and achieve big. I am a person of average abilities. I am good at a lot of things
but exceptional at none. I am not even the most intelligent person in my house. Truth might be
bitter, but it has not brought me down, it has acted as a motivation. Dedication and hard work have
been my tools which I have used to pave my way. It was consistent hard work over a period of four
years in undergraduate program which enabled me to achieve what people dream their whole lives.
I may not be the most gifted person but I am a hard worker. I truly believe that hard work is the only
recipe to success.

Hard work always paid off for me as my superlative performance in school fetched me some good
grades at school. I had developed a keen interest in science and decided to choose it as my career. I
therefore, took the entrance examination of Forman Christian College and enrolled myself as a full
time undergraduate student of Computer Science and passed it with stupendous cumulative grade
average point of 3.3 out of 4.

Even Though right after my graduation I started professional life and worked as a web developer but
deep down inside I always love the concepts and ideas about data science. I have always adopted a
rigorous approach in order to attain an in-depth understanding of the subject at hand. This has given
me a broad conceptual basis, which, I believe, is essential for my research career. My grades in the
basic courses reflect my quest for fundamentals. My overall grades in my undergraduate studies
have been good, but not excellent. This again reflects my approach to courses more as an
introduction to concepts that need further independent study by the student, rather than as a run-
up to a semester end examination.

By the passage of time I developed a strong interest in data science as to how the correct use of data
can give us some useful insights about the problem statement. How we can use data to enhance our
telecommunication technologies, business intelligence, health care, education and many other areas
of life. It’s the strong urge to know and learn the different machine learning techniques that would
help classify the raw data to drive some useful concepts. And so, data science and internet of things
go hand in hand. Every IOT device generates data all the time and how can we use that data to
extract meaningful information is something I’m passionate about.

My aspiration to work as a data scientist and communications technology leads me to apply to the
HSE University. I believe that a comprehensive knowledge and a good grasp of fundamentals are
essential for such a career. I feel that Graduate studies in Data Science in a good University like yours
will help me realize this objective. Therefore, I am seeking admission to master program at the HSE
University with a specialization in Data Science. I have compelling reasons to believe that I will be
extremely successful both as a Graduate student and later as a researcher.

Therefore, I think getting a chance to study at the HSE University will open stupendous and grateful
ways for me to make my plans and desire come true.
