CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.0 Introduction

Currently, noise disturbance is one of the environmental problems that can affect an
individual's health. This noise is an unwanted noise that has a psychological and
physical impact on humans and the environment when it gets worse. The effects of
this noise can also be classified into three: acoustic trauma, temporary hearing loss
and permanent hearing loss. Noise control is gaining attention in solving this noise
problem. The use and installation of sound absorption panels is a means of reducing
noise levels and noise disturbances.

Typically, building walls are fitted with absorption layers made of glass fiber or
acoustic panels made of synthetic chemicals. These conventional sound absorption
panels are also harmful to humans such as skin and eyes. There are several things that
have been done to address the problem of conventional sound absorption panels that
have a negative effect on humans by creating natural sound absorption panels using
materials such as coconut husks, paddy pads, banana trees and so on. The use of
natural materials as sound absorption panels can provide benefits such as renewable,
non-harmful materials to humans.
1.1 Problem Statement

Due to noise issues that disrupt the comfort and peace of the surrounding
community, sound absorption panels are being introduced and promoted for use in all
types of space. The manufacture of sound absorption panels in the Malaysian industry
using synthetic materials such as glass, and minerals raises consumer safety and
health issues. To address the issue, various methods have been identified to find
alternatives to produce environmentally friendly sound absorption panels.

Therefore, the use of natural fibers is one of the other methods that can be seen
to resolve issues related to existing sound absorption panels. Concerned about the
environmental impact, researchers began using natural fibers. The minimal cost,
convenience, lightweight and biodegradability makes the original material attractive
and can be used in sound absorption.

1.2 Objective

 Produces environmentally friendly sound absorption panels made of

natural materials such as coconut oils, which reduce the use of synthetic
materials, Rockwool.
 Test the feasibility of the sound absorption panels produced by the Barrier
Tube Test and Sound Level Meter.
 Make a comparison of the results of the materials that have been
produced.
1.3 Scope of the study

The following is the scope of this project:

 Using the Rockwool
Rockwool's use of sound capture technology is widely used by users.
Rockwool is able to capture this sound because there are spaces that can
capture the sound effects.

 Use Coconut Extract

Coconut extract is one of the most commonly used ingredients. In
addition, there have been no studies on the use of coconut residues in the
acoustic field. However, coconut oil can absorb sound energy due to
factors such as porosity.

 Percentage of material
The panel consists of two types. The first panel contains coconut oil
contents and the percentage used is 100% coconut oil content. The
second panel contains 30% rockwool and 70%. % of coconut husk filled
in the nest as a sound absorber. This percentage should be calculated to
see how much quantity should be used for coconut and rockwool for the
second panel.

 In terms of workability
Coconut flakes and Rockwool are easy to process because they do not use
tools and machines that are not harmful to human health such as itchy,
itchy eyes and so on.
EXPECTED RESULTS

From the results of this project, the results made using natural materials such as
coconut oil and Rockwool have the potential to reduce non-renewable materials such
as minerals. available sound. From the results it is also possible to create
environmentally friendly sound absorption panels. The advantages of using this
environmentally friendly sound absorption panel are that it does not have long-term
effects on humans such as skin diseases.

Previously, researchers have never made sound absorption materials from eco-
friendly materials and only made from synthetic materials such as minerals and other
chemicals. with a certain ratio. With the result of this sound absorber panel, it can be
introduced worldwide with environmentally friendly acoustic panels that are easy to
commercialize in educational institutions such as in the classroom.
