INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Nowadays people are engaged with the modern, flexible and reliable technological devices that

has been frequently used as a part of their lifestyle. Mobile phone’s is one example. Mobile phones can

be seen in any part of the world. One of the main uses of phones is for communicating by means of calling

or texting people can communicate even in very far place as long as there is a cell network signal. Other

use are for entertainment and gaining information through social media, google, playing games, watching

videos, and etc.

Unfortunately, mobile phone usage is limited to its battery life. This becomes very inconvenient

for people especially when there’s a power outage going on. As ordinary phone charger requires electricity

from electrical outlet to charge the phone.

Charging mobile phones in indoors is not a problem but when there’s no electricity this can be a

bother to the users. Charging phone from outdoors is a big problem as charging would require an electrical

outlet to plug in the charger.

With ever increasing demand for energy, man has left no stone unturned in search for the methods

of extracting energy, there are many energy sources such as: solar, wind, water, static, mechanical, etc.

These types of energy sources are not suitable for all situations. Some of it has advantages and

disadvantages. With the ongoing energy demands for portable phones, mechanical energy is proved to be

the most efficient and the easiest way to generate power.

DC motors are used in electric fans, DVD’s and other device that requires a rotation. By changing

the direction of the rotation of the motor by the use of axle and mechanical outside sources of energy. This
will generate electricity that can be used as an alternative source of energy to charge a phone. Phones are

now then charged without plugging into electrical outlet.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the efficiency of DC motor mechanical charger in charging mobile

phones.

Specifically, the study should able to answer the question:

1. Is there a significant difference in the ordinary phone charger and the mechanical

charger in Voltage?

2. How much time does it take to charge the phone to 100%?

3. How many percent of battery life can it charge under an hour?

Hypothesis

The researchers have come up with the idea of making a mechanical charger. This study is guided

by the following hypothesis.

1. The mechanical charger have less voltage than the ordinary phone charger

2 The mechanical charger take more time to charge the phone

3. The mechanical charger can charge lesser than the ordinary charger under an hour

Significance of the Study

This study is significant to the following:

Users- this study would be beneficial to the user of phones. This study provides advantages

to them such as charging even when there's power outage and lower electric bill

Environment- this study will help to reduce the energy usage in the environment to help

prevent power outage

Other researchers- this study will help other researchers as it will serve as additional

information and knowledge.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is limited to use recycled DC motor from broken devices like DVD player, remote

controlled toy, and etc. That will be used in making the mechanical charger.

Definition of Terms

DC motor – DC motors are electromechanical devices which use the interaction of magnetic fields

and conductors to convert the electrical energy into rotary mechanical energy.

Mobile phone – is a portable telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio frequency

link while the user is moving within a telephone service area.

Charger – is a device used to put energy into a secondary cell or rechargeable battery by forcing

an electric current through it.

Electric outlet – is a socket that connects an electrical device to an electricity supply

Review of Related Literature

The invention of motors is a world changing event that greatly and irrevocably affected the way

we live our lives. Nowhere is this visible than in the form of transportation we take to get from one place

to another. From cars, ships, and airplanes.

Motors have also influenced how we lived at home especially when it comes to doing chores.

Examples are Computers the motors have to do with its hard disk drive it spins and read the data stored

on them, Refrigerators need small motors to spin its compressor which compress cold air, Electric fan use

motors to rotate the fan, Washing machine use motors to spin the dryer tub and the washing tub, and etc.
DC motors can produce electricity by reversing the rotation. It uses wire coils that rotate creating

a magnetic field. This action converts mechanical energy of the rotation to a direct electric current. The

inclusion of a capacitor allows the motor to generate charge and the commutators transfer the charge to

capacitor for storage.

Nowadays human beings make many inventions for the progress of human life, one of this is

phone; it is used in communicating from far distance, entertainment, and many more. But it can only be

used when the battery is charged and this can be done by using a charger. This study makes use of dc

motor as mechanical charger.
