Bar code Scanners

 The corded scanner is attached to the PS2 keyboard connector in the CPU by using a
Synapse cable connector. Both the keyboard and the scanner can function at the
same time. Cordless scanners obtain power from the CPU.
 The cordless scanners also has a synapse cable to be used as an data input device at
the same time as the keyboard. Cordless scanners have their own power supply.
Cordless scanners are paired to their RF bases by scanning the label in the base.
 The barcode symbol scanners can be programmed to behave in different ways. The
scanners are programmed by scanning special programming barcodes.
 It is recommended to obtain a copy of the Symbol Advanced Programming Guide to
program the scanners for more sophisticated behaviors. It is also recommended to
obtain the advance-programming manual. A soft copy of the advanced programming
manual can be found in the following URL

How to Program Symbol 4004/4071 Scanners for Materials SAP
The scanners are programmed by scanning special barcodes located in the
Symbol programming aid sheet or in the Advanced Programming Guide.

Step 1: You must program the scanner to read fields with NO data identifier as the first
program.

How: Scan the following barcodes from the Programming Guide below (in this
order):

 Erase All Rules

 EITHER SCANNER PORT

 Send All Data that Remains

 Send Enter Key

 Save Rule

If there are no data identifiers to be stripped, then stop here. The

MSAP WCC receiving desktops and the SAR desktops for Kulim
Systems Manufacturing do not need to strip data identifiers.

Step 2: Program ALL data identifier in the list below except ‘S’ and “+”.

How: Scan the following barcodes from the Programming Guide below (in this
order):

 EITHER SCANNER PORT

 SPECIFIC STRING AT START

 Select or scan the data string to strip e.g. C or Z

or 1P or 2S

 End of Message

 Skip Ahead X where X = number of character to be

stripped. e.g. 2S = Skip Ahead 2 Character

 Send All Data that Remains

 Send Tab Key

 Save Rule

You will do this sequence for each and every data

identifier listed below except ‘S’ and “+”

Step 3: Program the ‘S’ data identifier in the list below .

How: If you are programming the scanner for A/T operations such as Flip Chip
and CEP then:

Scan the following barcodes from the Programming Guide below (in this order):

 EITHER SCANNER PORT.

 SPECIFIC STRING AT START.

 Select or scan “S”

 End of Message.

 Skip ahead 1 character.

 Send up to character.

 Scan “+”.

 Send Tab Key

 Save rule

If you are programming the scanner for SECC factories then:

 EITHER SCANNER PORT.

 SPECIFIC STRING AT START.

 Select or scan “S”.

 End of Message.

 Move to Character.

 Scan ‘+’.

 Send All Data that Remains.

 Send Tab Key.

 Save Rule.

Adding program of new or missed data identifier.

How: Scan the following barcodes from the Programming Guide

below (in this order):

 Erase Previously Saved Rule (this will erase the

program for the ‘S’ data identifier)

 Perform Step 2 above.

 Perform Step 4 above (this will load the ‘S’ sign

program as the last)

EnD

The Advanced programming guide contains more programming barcodes

that can be used in the event of a special configuration requirement.
