LITERACY RATE

(Philippine Literacy Rate Data 2010- 2014)

Literacy rate
- is the percentage of people who are able to read and write [1]
- total number of literate persons in a given age group, expressed as a
percentage of the total population in that age group. The adult literacy rate measures
literacy among persons aged 15 years and above, and the youth literacy rate measures
literacy among persons aged 15 to 24 years [2]
- is the percentage of people who can both read and write with understanding a
short simple statement about their everyday life [3]

Literacy rate among the population aged 15- 24 years progressed from year
2010 to 2014 as what the line graph shows. Youth literacy rate shows positive result.

At 2013 data showed that 98.82% youth females and 97.43% youth males with
the average total of 98.11% were able to read and write. 1.39% more youth females
were literate than youth males. Average total was obtained by adding the percentages
of youth females and youth males and dividing it by two.

Literacy rate among the population aged 15 years and older or the adult
population in year 2013 showed average total of 96.4%; with the data adult female:
96.79% and adult male 96.01%. Line graph showed progressed. More adult became
literate from year 2010- 2014.

2013 data showed that average total literacy rate among the population aged 65
years and older was 90.19% with the figures female: 89.87% and male: 90.51%. More
male was literate than female with the rate of 0.64%.
