MULTAN

Multan is known as the City of Saints, shrines and Madinah-Tul-Oleyah. The 5th
largest city of Pakistan is located on the banks of the Chenab River.
The ancient city was site of the renowned Multan Sun Temple. The history of the
city goes back more than 5,000 years. Multan was Dar-ul-Aman during the rule of
the Mughal Emperor Akbar. The city has an access through thirteen gates. Multan
is known to be the oldest living city and even became the abode of Sufism in South
East Asia.
Today, Multan is a combination of the old and new Pakistani culture. There is a big
hustle-bustle in the Old town and comfort of a five star hotel and sound streets in
the New city.
Multan is recognized as the birthplace of 12th-century Punjabi Muslim preacher,
Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar, he considered to be the first Punjabi poet as well.
Rukn-e-Alam who is 13th century Sufi & poet also belonged to Multan. The
numerous shrines within the old city offer impressive examples of workmanship
and architecture.
Multan Fort is located in the center of city, created by son of Mughal Emperor
Shah Jahan‘Murad Baksh’.
The Old city has a very interesting bazaar full of local handicrafts and many
elaborately decorated Shrines of the Sufi saints. The blue pottery, the traditional
shawls, Chunri-making (tie and dye), mirror embroidery, Khadi fabric, Multani
Khussa (shoes), embroidery work, thread and 'Aar' work costumes for ladies,
embroidered cloths, cholas or kurtas for men, painted and glazed earthen pottery.
Camel skin products, carpets and lacquered wooden products are some of the most
famous handicrafts of Multan.
The city has grown to become an influential political and economical center for the
country, with a dry port and excellent transport links. The Multan’s famous
produce: mangoes, surgical instruments and carpets are major exports of the city.
Multan also produces one of the best foods in the country. Sohan halwa from
Rewari Sweets tops the list of foods from Multan. People from all over Pakistan
love to get their hands on some Multani Sohan Halwa.
If we talk about sports, The Ibn-e-Qasim Bagh Stadium has its own value which is
, originally known as the Old Fort Stadium, hosted one Test Match in 1980.
Multan Cricket Stadium was inaugurated in 2001. The first day/night game played
at this ground was between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.
Multan has produced many international cricketers like Inzamam-ul-Haq former
cricketer and captain, Sohaib Maqsood, Rahat Ali, and Sania Khan.
Multan sultans is a Pakistani professional T20 franchise cricket team formed in
2017 to compete in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).Ali Khan Tareen won the
rights of the team on 20th December 2018 and announced on 6 January 2019 that
team would compete with the same name in the rest of the seasons.
