Materials Needed
I Crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Worsted weight yarn
**Colors used in hat shown: I Love This Yarn Graphite, Burnt Pumpkin, Dark
Denim, Keylime**
Crochet Needle

Gauge: 10 hdc = 3”
I tend to crochet tightly. Be sure to check your gauge before beginning, and
change your hook size if needed.

**Ch 1 does NOT count as a sc or hdc at beginning of row and round**

**You will work the band of the hat in rows. The rest of the hat is worked in
rounds**
**This hat has a lot of stretch to it. This has been factored in to the pattern. If
you are using a worsted weight yarn that does not have much stretch to it, you
will need to increase the length of your band**

Teen / Adult Medium (fits 21” – 22” heads)

Band
Ch 12

Row 1 - Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 10 ch. (11)

SC IN BACK LOOPS ONLY FOR THE REST OF THE BAND

Row 2 – Ch 1, turn. Sc in back loops only in all st across (11)

Row 3 - 60 – Repeat Row 2

*Your band should be 19.5” long UNSTRETCHED*

Ch 1, Turn. Bring your beginning row and hold in front of your current row. Sl St
across, going through your beginning row and the back loops ONLY of row 60.
**Do NOT finish off **

Turn your band right side out (so your sl st row is on the inside of your band). You
will now be working in the round.
Round 1 – Ch 1. Hdc in first st and in each st around your band (60 hdc). Join with
sl st to first hdc.

Change colors

Round 2 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 3 – 9 – Repeat Round 2

Change colors

Round 10 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 11 – 17 – Repeat Round 10

Change colors

Round 18 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 19 – 25 – Repeat Round 18

**Do NOT finish off**

Your hat will currently look like a tube.

**Go to FINISHING section**

Adult Large (fits 23” – 24” heads)

across, going through your beginning row and the back loops ONLY of row 66.

Turn your band right side out (so your sl st row is on the inside of your band). You
will now be working in the round.

Round 1 – Ch 1. Hdc in first st and in each st around your band (66 hdc). Join with
sl st to first hdc.

Change colors

Round 2 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 3 – 9 – Repeat Round 2

Change colors

Round 10 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 11 – 17 – Repeat Round 10

Change colors

Round 18 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

SC IN BACK LOOPS ONLY FOR THE REST OF THE BAND

Row 2 – Ch 1, turn. Sc in back loops only in all st across (11)

Row 3 - 72 – Repeat Row 2

*Your band should be 23.75” long UNSTRETCHED*

Ch 1, Turn. Bring your beginning row and hold in front of your current row. Sl St
across, going through your beginning row and the back loops ONLY of row 72.
**Do NOT finish off **

Turn your band right side out (so your sl st row is on the inside of your band). You
will now be working in the round.

Round 1 – Ch 1. Hdc in first st and in each st around your band (72 hdc). Join with
sl st to first hdc.

Change colors

Round 2 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 3 – 9 – Repeat Round 2

Change colors

Round 10 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 11 – 17 – Repeat Round 10

Round 18 – Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Round 19 – 25 – Repeat Round 18

**Do NOT finish off**

Your hat will currently look like a tube.

**Go to FINISHING section**

FINISHING

Lay your hat flat, with your hook in the center of your hat facing you.

Ch 1. Sc through final stitch and the stitch across (30 stitches around for
Teenager/Adult Medium Hat).

Turn your work and pinch the ends together. Sc through middle stitch nearest
year, and through the middle stitch across from you.
You will now have four sections of stitches. Turn your work and sc through the
center stitch of the two sections in front of you. Turn your work and sc through
the center stitch of the other two sections.

You will now have eight sections of stitches. Working your way around your hat, sc
through the center stitch of the section to your left, and the section directly across (four
stitches to the left). Continue with the other 6 sections, making 4 sc total.
Finish off, leaving a 6 inch tail. Thread your tail through your yarn needle and
thread your tail to the inside of your hat. Sew in all of your yarn tails.
