LETTER OF INTENT

Like most of the kids, even I had the habit of watching cartoons. I fell in love with a cartoon named
SWAT Kats in which two Kats fly a fighter jet and save their city. Another cartoon that took my heart was
Capeta, one in which a 10 year old kid races hard with passion in his go-kart to fulfill his dream of becoming a
professional racer. Thus started my desire of being fast and precise. I learnt driving myself and in the process I
experienced that driving and flying required the deep observance, a state always being alert, power to analyze
each and every second and take quick cum appropriate decisions. In this process I found my innate abilities to
analyze, to predict the next moves and take fitting calls.

Racing needs lot of investments. Knowing that my parents didn’t have enough for me to turn into a
professional racer, I dropped the idea, but the interest has always been alive. I choose Mechanical Engineering
in UG to have a broader idea of the field and then narrow down to automobile.

Since my childhood I have consistently been studious at my studies. All my life was in urban rich
environment and I never knew about outside problems till my father decided to let me taste the opposite end
making me land in my University. Located in the outskirts of a town with most of its students neither urban nor
rich made me feel it as haunted palace initially. But as the time passed I’ve got broadened not just in my stream
but also something that is more important than technical knowledge. I’ve transformed into a very flexible and
responsible human with much more awareness of societal issues. I can proudly say that I came out not just as an
undergraduate but also as a Version 2.0 of myself.

During the first two years of UG, I had courses and labs on computer programming. Thinking critically
to find an optimal solution for a problem excited me. Playing around with various logics and coding was
absolute fun. This interest fetched me a job in Cognizant Technology Solutions for software development and
was the major factor for me taking up the job apart from financial independence.

My connection with SWAT Kats, having transformed into a responsible person and my innate abilities to
analyze, predict and decide drove in the direction of becoming a fighter pilot in the Indian Armed Forces. But
unfortunately I got medically rejected. During this period, I came to know that the work in Data Science
required to analyze, predict and decide as well as regarding its versatility of applicability in various domains
including automobile and social sector. The whole world of mine starting from cars, qualities to coding was
available at one particular place. And this was the exact full package I was looking for!

After talking with few Data Scientists and understanding the length and breadth of the field I have
decided to first gain some knowledge in the field and then pursue master’s degree for deeper and easier
understanding. So, I took a PG Diploma course in Data Science in which I have learned Python, Tableau,
multiple concepts in statistics, various machine learning algorithms and big data concepts. I have enjoyed
working on various assignments, cases studies and especially the capstone project.

Because of hectic schedules of my research project, preparation for competitive exams and the Services
Selection Board Interviews, campus recruitments, curriculum and organizing our department’s fest my scores in
7th semester had gone little down. And due to workload at the office I could not submit Python and Domain
elective assignments on time which let to 30% marks penalty on each of them respectively

As I’ve spent a year with my PGD I looked for a one year graduate program with high teaching
standards and good course content. I can learn new things like in Web and Cloud Computing Web
Scraping, NoSQL database, R, Deep Learning and many more which are new to me from this course. I strongly
believe that MDS in the University of British Colombia would help me equipping to become a very good Data
Scientist.

Our team was runners in mime event at South-Indian Inter University Youth Fest conducted by
Government of India and represented our university in mime at National Inter University Youth Fest. We have
won many skits and also participated in singing, dancing. We lived and enjoyed every moment we performed by
giving our best. I could manage my time for studies, extracurriculars, with family cum friends and also personal
ones.
