SIPROTEC 4 Devices via SICAM I/O-Unit 7XV5673

Description of the application

A SIPROTEC 4- or Compact-Protection device has to send a trip-command via Ethernet network to several
wind turbines. The LED 8 from the protection device is only intended to be set when the feed-back of all
circuit breakers is positive.
The Ethernet (Subnet) is arranged with optical/electrical switches in a linear way, and can (if supported by
the switches) be expanded to a redundant ring.
This optical (redundant) allocation of the telegrams ensures the fault-free transmission of a trip-command
from the protection device to the relay of the SICAM I/O-Units, even over large distances. .
The protection device with EN100-Ethernet interface, as well as the SICAM I/O-Units are connected to the
electrical interfaces of the switches via patch cables. For the purpose of initialization, the protection device
must be temporarily connected to the PC via the frontal USB interface.

This specification attempts to display the procedure of the implementation of this application in as much
detail as possible. Nevertheless, basic knowledge of the PC operational system, and DIGSI 4 with routing
matrix, CFC and the IEC 61850 system configurator is of advantage.
This document has been built by the use of DIGSI 4.88 and I/O-Unit V2.03. If other versions of DIGSI or
I/O-Units are used, pictures and handling could be different.
Further application descriptions are available under www.siprotec.com > Downloads > Accessories.
Note for SIPROTEC Compact protection devices:
Using Modbus UDP protocol, a binary in and output extension (with 2 I/O units up to 12 in/outputs) can be
applied to SIPROTEC Compact protection devices 7SJ80 and 7SK80 via the Ethernet service module on
port A. An applicable application description is available in the Internet SIPROTEC download pool under

This application shows the distribution of the command ”Gen. Trip“ of a 7SJ80 with feed-back via binary
inputs of two SICAM I/O-Units that are connected via Ethernet,e.g. in distributed wind-turbines. .
This application applies representatively for all SIPROTEC devices with EN100 Ethernet module.
The three switches/routers are connected via F/O cables and may also be operated as a ring. The switch
has to support this function, and is not described here.
1.2 Setting IP-addresses of the devices in the subnet
When starting the project, it is advisable to set the IP addresses of the individual devices.

Device IED-name IP-address Subnet mask Gateway

Switch / Router 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0
PC 192.168.10.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.1
Protection device 192.168.10.120 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.1
1. SICAM I/O-Unit S_IO_00001 192.168.10.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.1
2. SICAM I/O-Unit S_IO_00002 192.168.10.11 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.1

In networks, the IP-address of the PC is often allocated via DHCP. It may however not conflict with other IP
addresses in the same subnet.
The IEC 61850 IED-name of the SICAM I/O-Unit has to begin with “S_IO_“ and end with a 5 digit number.
Example: „S_IO_12345“, or as in this application “S_IO_00001“.

2 Changing the IP-addresses of the SICAM I/O-Units

If all devices have to communicate within one subnet, all the IP addresses of all devices have to be located
within this subnet. To exclude a multiple allocation of the same IP addresses, a list should be compiled ,
which stipulates a clear allocation (see above).
The following steps are necessary for the setting of the SICAM I/O-Units.
2.1 Setting the IP-Address of the PC to the default subnet of the SICAM I/O-Units
The IP-address of the “configuration PC” may have a fixed IP address. It may also have been allocated as a
variable by a router via DHCP. During later operation, the IP address of the “System PC” should be fixed.
In order to change the default IP-address of the SICAM I/O-Units (192.168.0.55) the PC with its Ethernet
interface has to be located in the same subnet. To achieve this, the IP address of the PC must be changed
as follows:
Under “Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Network and Sharing Centre” and LAN-Connection,
Properties, Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4) and Use the following IP address the IP address of
the PC is changed to “192.168.0.2” and saved.

Thereafter the SICAM I/O-Units are connected to the PC via a patch cable (1:1 or cross over) individually,
one after the other.

2.2 Opening the Web-Server of the SICAM I/O-Unit in the Internet-Browser

The SICAM I/O-Unit has an integrated Web-Server which can be opened in an Internet browser
After a SICAM I/O-Unit has been connected to the PC via an Ethernet interface, an Internet browser, for
example the MS Internet Explorer is opened. The default address of the SICAM I/O unit “192.168.0.55“ is
entered as the URL. The window “Information“ with the content “Device Information“ is opened.

Here the Device Information such as the Order number (MLFB), Firmware Version or
Device Date and Time are displayed.
For the purpose of fault location or monitoring of events, various Message Logs can be opened and
analysed in the navigation column on the left.

2.3 Setting IP-Addresses of the SICAM I/O-Units for a planned subnet

After choosing the tabs Configure and Communication Ethernet the Ethernet-addresses and the
communication protocol may be set. .
If IEC 61850 has been chosen as the Bus protocol IEC 61850, the desired Edition has to be selected
under Parameter.
If several SICAM I/O-Units have to be “cascaded” via the Ethernet interface, or if a further bus participant has
to be connected, the integrated Ethernet switch has to be activated. To connect one or more devices the
Ethernet-Adapter 7KE6000-8GD00-0BA2 always has to be applied.

The figure shows the settings for the first SICAM I/O-Unit without active switch
IP-Address (192.168.10.10), Subnet mask (255.255.255.0) and Default Gateway (192.168.10.1) are set
according to Subnet plan (see 1.2).
If the choice yes has been selected under Use settings from uploaded Subscriber configuration, the
settings of the IEC 61850 protocol are loaded from a still to be generated SCD file.
If all settings have been made, these are saved and activated in the SICAM I/O unit with the buttons Send
and Activation.
Using Download ICD file, a Default-ICD-File from one of the SICAM I/O units must be saved on a data
medium for the later incorporation of the SICAM I/O unit into the system configurator. This ICD file is not
device specific. It can however be adapted to a specific device, using a text editor. Alternatively, the required
changes can be made later in the system configurator.
Now the next SICAM I/O-Unit can be connected to the PC and the settings can be made.

2.4 Saving and activating the settings

The settings have to finally be activated in the SICAM I/O unit, after saving the changes on each altered
page with the button Send.

Using Activation and entering the Password all changes are activated in the SICAM I/O unit under Finish
Configuration.
Now the second SICAM I/O-Unit with Default-IP-address (192.168.0.55) can be connected to the PC, and
set to IP-address 192.168.10.11.
Note: The connection from the PC to the SICAM I/O unit can only be re-established after the IP address of
the PC has been changed to the final subnet 192.168.10.x.
2.5 Setting the IP-Address of the PC for a planned subnet
With the next step, the IP address of the PC is again adapted to the planned subnet with a fixed IP address
(see 2.1). When all SICAM I/O-Units are connected via a switch/router, they can now be centrally operated
and set via the PC.

3 Creating a new project in DIGSI 4

After creating a new DIGSI 4 project, all devices are applied, set or parameterised again, one after the other.
Thereafter, the desired couplings of functions of the devices amongst each other are applied in the system
configurator.

3.1 Setting up a new protection device in DIGSI

The protection device has to be set up in DIGSI 4 with the corresponding MLFB (not as Plug & Play).

3.2 Selecting the protocol of the EN100-interface in DIGSI

If the device has no EN100 interface according to the MLFB, this can as a rule be retro-fitted. It must then be
applied in DIGSI under Object Properties, Communication modules as:
1. Port B (button … Protocol and
2. Port B (button … IEC 61850, RJ45 with EN100

3.3 Setting Ethernet-addresses of the EN100-interface in DIGSI

For the system interface, the planned Ethernet addresses of the protection device are set under
communication parameters (192.168.10.120).

After the entries have been confirmed with OK the device must be initialised.

3.4 Initialising the protection device

For this purpose the device has to be connected via the frontal operations interface (USB or RS232)

When the initialising process of the protection device has been completed, it is connected to the
switch/router, and may now also be operated via the Ethernet network with DIGSI 4.

4 Setting logical in and outputs in the SIPROTEC device

In this application the command Gen. Trip is to be put out to relays 1 and 2 of both SICAM I/O-Units. The
feed-back of both circuit-breakers is only to be output to the LED 8 of the SIPROTEC device via a binary
input of the specific SICAM I/O unit, when both feed-backs are pending.
The logic command Gen. Trip of the protection device is already pre-set to the IEC 61850 interface and may
be linked directly in the system configurator.
The feed-back indication of both circuit-breakers must be coupled with an “AND“ gate and indicated via
LED 8. For this purpose, an “AND” gate must be generated on the CFC of the device, and the required in
and outputs must be routed to the margins.
Initially however, the logic in and outputs of the routing matrix have to be re-set, clearly identified and routed.
.
4.1 Setting logical linkages in the routing matrix
To facilitate a better overview in the routing matrix of the protection device, a new group GOOSE is applied
using Insert Group. Using Insert Information … three new annunciations are applied.
Then two logical inputs ExSP (feed-backs Input 01 and Input 02) are obtained under Source from the
interface “S“ and forwarded to the “C” FC under Destination.
The group alarm Group trip (is later derived from the “AND-gate“ in the CFC) is obtained from the “C” FC
under Source and put out on the LED 8 under Destination without being saved.

Using the right mouse-click, the dialog e.g. Object properties – Input 01 –ExSP is opened.
A unique name e.g. In01 is entered in the box CTRL/, which then also appears in the CFC as well as the
system configurator.
The management of the routing matrix in DIGSI 4 is explained in detail in the system manual SIPROTEC 4.

After closing all dialogs with OK and saving under File, Save the routing matrix may be closed.

4.2 Setting logic linkages in CFC

The two feed-back signals are linked via an AND gate.
For this application, a new CFC chart is applied. From the library Status of Information select the module
ST_AND (AND – Gate) and drag and drop it into the chart.

4.2.1 Linking logical inputs in CFC

To route the signals Input 01 and Input 02 from the group GOOSE to the input of the AND gates X1 and
X2, use the Interconnection to Address … The completed routing is then displayed on the left margin.

4.2.2 Linking the logical output in CFC

By clicking with the right mouse-button on the output of the Gate, a selection box is opened.
The output Y (group) of the AND gate can be linked to the signal with the name Group trip from the group
GOOSE, using the Interconnection to Address … The completed routing is then displayed in the right
margin.

4.2.3 Setting the priority sequence in CFC

Various modules of the CFC are pre-set with a low priority to facilitate slower processing, may however be
shifted to a faster processing level.
Note: The processor load is increased when a large number of sequences are processed simultaneously,
which results in a race condition..

Under Edit and Open Run Sequence the selection box for the processing level is opened.

The CFC plan CFC-(1) has already been shifted to the faster processing level PLC_BEARB (Fast PLC) in
the figure above.

The relevant program is compiled with Charts as Program … under Chart and Compile and correctly
executed with the following prompt.

The SICAM I/O units must be applied along with the protection devices in the DIGSI project. Device specific
ICD-Files have to be compiled for this purpose.
5.1 “Downloading “Default-ICD-File from the SICAM I/O-Unit
The SICAM I/O-Unit offers a default-ICD-File, which defines the logic in and outputs.

Under Configure, Administrative, Communication on the SICAM/IO unit web surface the ICD-File
7XV56731.icd can be saved on the PC, using Download ICD file.

5.2 Applying device-specific ICD-Files

When the default ICD files both I/O units are incorporated into the system configurator, a number of
confusing fault messages are displayed, as the IED names, the IP addresses and the virtual MAC addresses
of both (ICD-Files) are the same.
Applying device specific ICD files in a text editor is easier and more transparent.
The default ICD-file has to be opened on the PC 7XV56731.icd using the Windows text-editor. It then has to
be adapted to the individual SICAM I/O-unit and saved as device specific file.

The required alterations in the mapping file for two SICAM I/O units are displayed in the figure above.
The IED-name ”TEMPLATE“ has to be altered in S_IO_0000x.icd twice.
The corresponding IP-addresses are adapted to the corresponding SICAM I/O-Unit.
The virtual MAC-addresses for the GOOSE_Inputs and GOOSE_Outputs all have to vary, and may not
overlap with those of other devices (e.g. protection devices).

These changes may also be done later in the system configurator.

9 Configuring Inputs- and Outputs of the SICAM I/O-Units

As a last step, the in and outputs of the SICAM I/O-Units must be configured..
9.1 Binary inputs
After opening the operating tools of the first SICAM I/O-unit (IP-address 192.168.10.10) in the Web-Browser,
the settings of the primary inputs are applied with the tab Configure under Binary Inputs

To avoid triggering of the input by parallel lines or displaced voltages, the pick-up thresholds Threshold
voltage of the binary inputs for higher battery voltages may be adapted here. In addition, the filtering time
Software filter time can be increased for each input.
A transparent text for the selected function may be entered in the lines Binary input indication
The button Send only buffers the settings in this tab. After a change the word modified appears in red
writing in the top right corner.
Using Finish configuration and Activation the settings of all tabs of the SICAM I/O unit are confirmed.
Activation can also take place after processing of all tabs.

9.2 Binary outputs

The settings of the binary outputs are applied under Binary Outputs in the tab Configure.

The logical source for the triggering of the output relay is selected under Source. In this application the trip
command Indication 1 from Remote, is obtained from the protection device via Ethernet IEC61850
(GOOSE).
The signal can be inverted or the Operating mode changed under the parameter Source inverted.
The operating mode Persistent means that the state of the relay permanently corresponds to the
corresponding input signal.

A logical source can be routed to as many relays as required for the purpose of contact multiplication.
Using the button Send causes the settings to be saved and finally with Finish configuration and Activation
applied to the SICAM I/O-Unit. Save the settings with the button Send.

9.3 Fault alarms

The selection of routings to a relay also offers fault alarms.

In this example, relay 6 shuts down if the Ethernet connection to the SICAMI/O unit is faulty.
Save the settings with the button Send.

9.4 LEDs
A number of alarms can be allocated to the LEDs.

Using H1, the incoming trip command can be routed to the three allocatable LEDs. H2 is used to alarm the
incoming response of the circuit breaker at the 1st binary input. The Error alarms the interrupt of the Ethernet
connection.

9.5 Saving the settings in the SICAM I/O unit.

Before closing the window in the browser, the settings of all tabs in the SICAM I/O unit must be saved with
Finish configuration and Activation.

9.6 Applying the setting of the second SICAM I/O-Unit

The process as described in 11.1 – 5 of the first SICAM I/O-Unit has to be repeated with the second
SICAM I/O-Unit (IP-address 192.168.10.11).

10 Task and test of the application

10.1 Task of the application
This application facilitates the distribution of the command “Gen. Trip“ of a 7SJ80 (or another SIPROTEC 4-
device) with feed-back via binary inputs of two SICAM I/O units via Ethernet, e.g. in distributed wind turbines
in wind parks.
10.2 Test of the application
To test this application, a general trip is produced in the protection device by the application of an “over-
current”. This trip command is transmitted to both SICAM I/O units via GOOSE. The LEDs H1 are set in both
units, and the contacts of relay 1 on the terminals N1-N2 are interrupted.
If the binary inputs of both SICAM I/O units are now triggered on the terminals N8-N9 with an auxiliary
voltage corresponding to the pick-up value via the corresponding relay contacts N1-N2, the condition of the
binary inputs (e.g. the responses of the circuit breaker) are displayed on the corresponding LEDs H2, and
transmitted to the protection device. LED8 is set in the protection device via the AND gate in the CFC.

If the connection to one of the two binary inputs is interrupted, the LED 8 on the protection device turns off.
