Abstract

Our premier, high visibility location immediately adjacent to

Butingting mini bike shop has been critical to our success as the
bicycle sales and service purveyor of choice to the university
community. The continuance of established accounts payable, sales
programs, and co-op advertising resources by suppliers of bicycles,
accessories, and parts makes the financial plan reasonable and
attainable. Without this support, the purchase of the business would
be unacceptably risky.Buying and continuing to use the recognized,
well respected name Butingting mini bike shop provides continuity for
the customers, the owner, and the employees.Retaining and
promoting the current employees of the shop is as important as any
other item here. They are the life of Butingting mini Bike shop. Long-
term relationships with customers have always been a hallmark of the
Butingting mini bike shop experience. We recognize and address our
customers by name, and want to be part of their university
experience. The local bicycle shop (LBS) has long served its
neighborhood as a retail establishment and service center, but little
has been done to analyze its influence on the greater community.
After examining the categories of people who cycle and frequent bike
shops, a rough typology of the different kinds of bike shops often
found in a city was synthesized. This paper examines the different
roles or assets that a given shop can be in a neighborhood. From a
third place or anchoring institution to advocate for and even
component of cycling infrastructure, the LBS fulfills one or several of
these responsibilities to its community. The definitions of these four
community assets will provide insight into how the average bicycle
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY vi

shop might act as such. Specific shops in the city of Portland are then
carefully examined through observation and staff interviews to
determine the extent to which these roles are actually performed. This
paper suggests that a community that wishes to establish or maintain
itself as friendly towards cycling should recognize the LBS as a crucial
part of that image by providing a unique place for all people to gather,
socialize, and exchange knowledge.

CHAPTER 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

A bicycle or bike is a vehicle composed of two wheels held in a

frame one behind the other, propelled by pedals and steered with
handlebars attached to the front wheel (Hulton, 1932). Bikes are the
most affordable form of motorized transport in many parts of the
world, and for most of the world’s population, they are also the most
common type of motor vehicle. It helps people to travel faster on a
short distance places.
Inventory is the stock of any item or resource used in an
organization and can include: raw materials, finished products,
component parts, supplies, and work-in-process (Chase, 1998). An
inventory system is a set of policies and controls that monitor levels of
inventory and determines what levels should be maintained, when
stock should be replenished, and how large orders should be (Landin,
2001). The purpose of inventory system is to stabilize production, to
take advantage of price discounts, to prevent loss of orders which is
the sales, and to keep pace with changing market conditions.
The reason why butingting bike shop needs a computerized
inventory system is to manage the sales of every items. Because
butingting bike shop used manual inventory system, it can cause the
income and outcome of the bike shop. Coming from that research,
this can help to well-monitored the sales and inventory of butingting
bike shop. Using manual inventory system will takes too much time to
list the sales of every item. Having a computerized inventory system
will surely lessen the works of employees.
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 2

Background of the Study

Cycling can help to protect you from serious diseases such as

stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity and
arthritis. Riding a bike is healthy, fun and a low-impact form of
exercise for all ages. Cycling is easy to fit into your daily routine by
riding to the shops, park, school or work.
Before the creation of the today’s modern bicycle, there were
several examples of simpler bicycle transport devices. It all started in
16th century with the discovery of 1493 Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches,
which included simple designs for bicycle. Some historians claim that
either his student Gian Giacomo Caprotti made this drawing or that is
altogether fake. That design was never produced into working model
and in following four hundred years horses remained only affordable
means of transport on public road.
So we choose the Butingting bike shop to help in our thesis
because one of our member is a biker so we decided to help this
minibike shop. And were going to see after this research of how much
the business will improve. Not only in the system of Butingting bike
shop but also the customers they'll have.
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 3

Statement of the Problem

The main problem of this research is the unmonitored incomes

and outcomes of butingting bike shop. Employees not monitored the
outcomes because of lack on advance technology, also the incomes
that the company got from the sales.
When it talks about tools and equipments, they having a hard
time to provide enough equipment needed by the costumers, it takes a
long time before they hand out to the costumers what they needed.
Additionally, they didn’t know their stocks well. It is not well-counted.
Lastly, the researchers observed the employees having a
hard time to fulfill their roles, because of the system they have. The
system obviously is an old school type that needs to coped up on
today’s matters.

General Problem

The butingting bike shop is in need of monitoring system

on their inventory.

Specific Problem

1. Lack of advance technology.

2. Unmonitored incomes and outcomes.

3. Having a hard time to provide customer needs.

4. Uncounted number of stocks.

5. Unorganized plan.
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 4

Objectives of the Study

The main focus of this stuy is to develop the monitoring system

of the butingting bike shop.

Specifically, the study aims:

 The general objective of the study is to create a computerized

inventory system that will provide an effective outcome.
 In order to have easy and comfortable in all employees of
butingting bike shop.
 To create a systems that helps the employees in butingting bike
shop.

Scope

For Employee who managed the inventories are one of the subjective in this
research, and monitoring the expenses of the outcome of their sales system and the
third one is monitoring the income or sales of the company.

Limitation

This research is not conducted for all employees and the system is not online.
The system is not local area network (LAN) and the system is not calculating that
need to meet the income of the company and also the system has no benefit to the
costumers. An last, the system is cannot identify the value of the items or price of the
items.

Significance of the Study

A good system is making a good business, and well organize

system are pleasing in the eyes of customers. Butingting bike shop is
one of the high suppliers in Padilla when it comes to tools, Bikes
pieces/parts and etc. They need to have a good system, so the
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 5

customers having a fast comply on what their needs. And this study
will help to the employee and especially to the owner of the bike shop,
because they will be aware of what their needs and not. It helps then
to maintain the sales and stocks of the Bike shop so that they comply
and supply their self on what their needs as soon as possible.
In this study were going to research how the employees feel
about their system and the customers so that we will know what we
need to improve. When we observe the biggest markets or business
they are particularly strict when it comes to sales and inventory. One
key to success is being strict in inventory and sales, in order to do
that we need to acquire system to help us to grow this business.
So this research help the Butingting Bike shop to grow
furthermore it gives light to other Bike shops that surrounds
Butingting Bike shop to advance more so that the customers find an
advancements in the area of Lower Antipolo. It gives hope and light to
other bikers that their needs is rest assure will be sell to theirs. So
this research is a big help to this business and to other bikers.
By purchasing your new bike from a professional bicycle
store instead of from a mass merchant or "discount" department store,
you receive numerous important advantages that will ensure a
lifetime of cycling enjoyment. (The Bike Shop Advantage)

Related Literature

This research posits the question that good design of the bicycle
infrastructure in a city will encourage more people to cycle. Research
is carried out to compare the cycle infrastructure in selected
European cities against an adapted Level of Service concept using
accompanied ride-alongs. The literature review on the factors that
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 8

encourage/dissuade cycle use suggests that it is the potential rider’s

perceptions on the safety of cycling in their neighbourhood that is the
deciding feature. Moreover, the literature review showed that
contextual factors such as whether the actual infrastructure meets
the needs of different cyclists are relatively under-researched. Six case
study cities were selected (Edinburgh, Cambridge, Amsterdam,
Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht) and compared on a range of factors
by the riders including the coherence, directness, attractiveness,
safety and comfort of the network. A cycle infrastructure scoring
system was derived from the cycling research literature and the
research was carried out by the researcher, an experienced cyclist,
accompanied by an inexperienced cyclist. Using this research, the
article makes several recommendations for improving and enhancing
existing cycle infrastructure provision.

"Bicycling seems inherently dangerous on its own," said study co-
author Wesley Marshall, PhD, PE, assistant professor in the College of
Engineering, Design and Computing at CU Denver. "So it would seem
that a city with a lot of bicycling is more dangerous, but the opposite
is true. Building safe facilities for cyclists turned out to be one of the
biggest factors in road safety for everyone."

The study published in the Journal of Transport & Health found that
bike facilities act as "calming" mechanisms on traffic, slowing cars
and reducing fatalities. The effect is similar to the effect of grid blocks
found in cities with higher intersection density

Researchers looked through 13 years of data from 12 large U.S. cities

with high-bicycling mode shares, including Denver, Dallas, Portland,
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 9

Ore., and Kansas City, Mo. During those years, the United States saw
a 51% increase in bicycling to work and the number of protected bike
lanes double each year starting in 2009. In a longitudinal study, the
researchers investigated over 17,000 fatalities and 77,000 severe
injuries.

Originally, researchers believed that more bike lanes and the increase
in cyclists would lead to a "safety-in-numbers" effect: the more cyclists
on the road, the more likely drivers would slow down and be aware of
their surroundings.

Instead, they found that safer cities aren't due to the increase in
cyclists, but the infrastructure built for them -- specifically, separated
and protected bike lanes. They found that bicycling infrastructure is
significantly associated with fewer fatalities and better road-safety
outcomes.

Project Methodology

This chapter covers the whole research, the strategies, procedure in

finding and collecting data, the project design, project development,
project locale, procedure, the research methods and the statistical
tools.
OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY 10

Project Design

This study used quantitative design that addresses the effectiveness of

the bike shop with an outstanding system to attain a service that will
benefit both employee and the customers. This design includes efforts
to attain advance system, comfortable working progress, and
assurance of well counted tools and equipment. In the first term,
researchers focus on the basics of project design and management:
identifying the problem, finding information where to address it,
interpreting the evidence, present one’s findings. In the second term
we translate the result more directly into the world of academic
research; formulating question, reviewing literatures, deciding on a
method before gathering data trough survey and finally analyzing the
data and presenting one’s findings.
This is a quantitative study that utilized also a quantitative approach
to data inquiry, the researchers uses Semi -experimental method and
the researchers technique to gather that is by giving survey
questionnaire, this is the most fitting to use due to its ability to test
the objective theories of the researchers which is the effectiveness of
rammed earth and also in measuring possibilities of rammed earth as
an alternative for cement concrete without changing in its
environment.
