Math 115 Final Exam Information

Fall 2019

The Final Exam is cumulative. Roughly, about 40% of the exam will be the material from after
Exam 2 (Rational Functions and Trig), about 30% of the exam will be material from Exam 1, and
about 30% of the exam will be material from Exam 2. The Final Exam is a 2-hour exam worth 260
points and consisting of two parts:

1) ALEKS Exam (worth 130 points): This will be similar to the ALEKS exams that you took
for Exam 1 and Exam 2. The only difference is that it is cumulative and worth more points.
2) Written Test (worth 130 points): This will be similar to the written exams that you took
for Exam 1 and Exam 2. The only difference is that it will be cumulative and worth more
points.

Like Exam 2, you will be given the written exam near the beginning of the exam slot. You can use
your time however you like to complete the two portions of the exam. The last 5 minutes of your
testing block will be used for transition; you will only have 1 hour and 55 minutes to complete your
final exam.

Exam Procedures
As with the other exams, when arriving you will store ALL of your personal belongings (book bag,
purse, jacket, etc.) – including your cell phone and/or smart watch – in one of the cubbies or
along the wall in the Testing Lab. Having a cell phone or smart watch on you is an academic
honesty issue and will be treated seriously. Make sure you have your ID with you at your seat so
the proctor can check you in.

What to Bring
Bring your picture ID, pencil and eraser. Make sure you know your ALEKS login and password. Do
NOT bring scrap paper or a calculator; these will be provided for you in the testing lab.

Early Final Exam

• Friday, 12/6 in the MSLL Testing Lab in Kent Dining Hall 101.
• Taking the Final Exam early is optional, not required. To qualify, you must have at least
95% of your ALEKS pie completed.
• If you are interested, email your instructor once you’ve reached 95%. Your instructor will
check your pie completion. If you qualify, you will receive the Early Final Exam Sign Up.
The Early Final Exam Sign Up will be available Monday morning, 12/2.
• Use the Early Final Exam Sign Up to schedule.
• There is no hard deadline as to when you need to reach 95%. Let your instructor know as
soon as you reach 95%, and we will get the Sign Up out to you as soon as we can.

Regular Final Exam

• Monday, 12/9 – Friday, 12/13 in the MSLL Testing Lab in Kent Dining Hall 101.
• Use the Final Exam Sign Up to schedule. All Math 115 students will receive this Sign Up
on Monday, 12/2 around 3pm.
• You will be unable to see your ALEKS Exam grade in the ALEKS gradebook right away. If
you need to know your score to determine if you want a retake, you will need to email your
instructor.
• Important: It is entirely your responsibility to schedule a time to take your Final Exam, and
to show up for your scheduled timeslot. If you do not sign up and/or do not show up for
your scheduled timeslot, and there are no more testing slots available, then you will
receive a 0% on the Final Exam.

Retakes of the ALEKS Exam

• Wednesday, 12/11 – Friday, 12/13 in the MSLL Testing Lab in McKinly Lab 337
(note – NOT Kent Dining Hall).
• If you determine you want a retake after taking your first attempt on the ALEKS exam, then
email your instructor. Your instructor will send you the signup for the ALEKS retake.
These are 1-hour slots in McKinly Lab.
• Retakes are only for the ALEKS portion.
• A retake of the ALEKS portion of the Final Exam is possible, but is NOT guaranteed.
Retakes will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want a good chance at a
retake, then plan to take your first attempt early in the week.

How to Prepare for the Final Exam

1) ALEKS Exam

a. Use the Review option in ALEKS to practice any topics that you previously learned but
want to review. To do this, click on the 3 horizontal bars in the top left corner of your
ALEKS account, and click Review.
b. After you complete the last ALEKS Objective (Trig & Trig Graphs), you will be able to
work in Open Pie mode in ALEKS. This allows you to work on any topics that you
either never learned or that you lost in a Knowledge Check, i.e., topics that you won’t be

 able to access via Review described in part a) above. This will also help to increase your
Pie Mastery score.
c. Work on the Exam 1 Practice Problems, Exam 2 Practice Problems, and After Exam 2
Practice Problems in ALEKS in Assignments.
d. Work on the Final Exam Practice Problems in ALEKS in Assignments (not available
until 12/2). This is a condensed version of the problems found in the other three Practice
Problem sets mentioned above.

2) Written Exam

a. Work on the problems in the set of Final Exam Review Problems (file and key are on
Canvas in Modules: Exam Prep).
b. Work through problems from the Review Problems for Exam 1 and Exam 2 (files and
keys are on Canvas in Modules: Exam Prep). Try re-doing the problems from scratch.
c. For any topics that you need more practice on, use your course pack – regular topics,
Extra Practice Problems and Mixed Reviews all offer problems to work on. Work on the
problems from scratch, instead of just reading over your notes or looking at the key.
Visit the Topic Reinforcements (available on Canvas) to find more problems to practice
related to specific topics.
d. Work through each of your quizzes, partner work, and/or TYKS. Again, try re-doing the
problems from scratch instead of reading over your work or just reading through the quiz
key. Blanks and keys can be found on Canvas in Modules: Misc Assignments.
e. Go over your written Exam 1 and written Exam 2 with your instructor.
f. If there is any problem in parts a) – e) that you do not know how to solve or do not
understand, then you are not ready for the Final Exam! So, start preparing early enough
so that you have time to see your instructor and/or a tutor during MSLL Open Lab to go
over any problems /topics about which you are unsure.
